It's been mentioned in a few other threads, that security software, SecuROM, has problems with Sony drives. Since you have a Sony computer, I'm guessing it is safe to say that you also have Sony drives onboard. I don't know what the problem is. You'll have to check out the SecuROM and Sony tech support sites for info.

The game has been very stable for me. No CTD's yet, but then I'm not running any Sony hardware.

I have a sony vaio desktop that I run the game on, but I dont think it's got sony cd drives at all, It has a samsung cd player and a Pioneer DVDRW/CDRW.

As for crashing, the game occasionally randomly crashes on my Sony Vaio desktop too. But it's not had the issue that your facing. Does your drives acknowledge that any other CD (besides cotn) is in the drives? If not then it sounds more like a Microsoft Windows or Sony specific problem with your computer.

Just trying to help

Hey Keith, has there been any mention of patches for the secuROM problem with the Sony hardware yet?

Its just a guess, but Sony is a japanese company, so maybe, the US version of the game thinks that it is being installed or running from a foriegn computer system? Sorta like the region nonsense with DVDs.

AirBoss it's a Sony problem and they don't seem to have any desire to fix it. It's existed for a number of years even with earlier versions of secu-rom. To write a patch would require either secu-rom or Sony to do the work.

SimPattyCo, what is the hardware on your vaio? look in device manager to see what CD/ DVD drives are installed on it, because mine are not sony branded but rather pioneer and Samsung. So if'n you have sony cd's dvd's then I'd gander it's a sony problem, but if not, then you need to look elsewhere like microsoft or the game itself, though im doubting its the game that caused this since it recogonized the cd initially but after a crash it didnt.

Im pretty sure the game gets its information from the operating system installed not the individual hardware that the software is installed on.

Hmmm, i'm running two Sony drives. I wonder if my crash problems are just taking a break, and will start showing up again.

i have a sony viao. Game works fine on it. I had one crash with the retail version. thats including virus scan working.

I also have sp2 something like that and it works fine.

Did you try to defrag and clean your computer? Turn off the virus scan.

maybe that'll help.

AirBoss if your drives were going to give a problem it would have been one of two problems. 1. it wouldn't install at all 2. it would install but wouldn't run.

All drives will give a problem with not running or game lock up if the drive or the cd is dirty. Thos problems are pretty easy to address since a dirty drive can be cleaned using a drive cleaner and cds can be cleaned gently using a soft cloth and warm water. Any cd or dvd drive that has been in use for a year or more is dirty but may not be dirty enough to cause problems.

BTW even a branded drive isn't always built by the folks whose brand is on the case :D

I have a similar problem with my Laptop, but it is a Gateway 675XL, so I do not think the game's instabillity is limited to Sony Systems.

I don't believe SecuROM issues patches. They just put it in the next version that they crank out. You'd have to check their website for any announcements. I haven't been there in many months.
