For the most part on lowest settings and 800x600 32bit color the game runs okay, with the exception of the mouse. The mouse is very very jerky and slow to move. I dont expect this to run as good as it does on my desktop by the way, just hoping for a bit better mouse control.
The thing that I noticed is that when I push my mouse to the bottom of the screen to scroll down, and then bring the mouse back towards the middle of the screen the windows taskbar flashes briefly. I've had one other game in all the games I'v'e bought in the past that did this and the developers told me what the problem was. Im just wondering if by seeing this flashing windows taskbar could have anything to do with the jerky mouse on my laptop.
Im sure my laptop is well under specs(dont have the box anymore and the manuals at the office), but it's a Intel Celeron 2.0Ghz 1GB ram, sis 651 built in video 30GB hard drive with 21GB free.
Any clues as to why moving the mouse around the screen would be jerky but the rest of the game seems okay?
Thanks,
Keith

The game can tend to get a little laggy even on high end systems at times, but nothing bad (at least on my system).
If it is a real problem and the game is moving slowly as your scroll, put the game on pause and then scroll over to where you want to be, or use the nav map to click on a spot to jump there or drag the small white trapazoid box around the mininav map to change locations on the game map.

Its not so much the scroll lag, thats not all that bad, once it gets started scrolling it does okay, its the actual movement of the mouse that is very VERY laggy, even on pause the mouse movement is very VERY laggy, thats the only thing I would hope to be able to "fix" to play it on the laptop.
//Its such a beautifull day outside today at home that I was hoping that I could play COTN on my laptop while sipping margaritas by the pool, thats why I turned the res down to 800x600 which produces the same laggy mouse that 1024x768 does, so in theory I could play at th ehigher res if the mouse wasn't so laggy in the game on the laptop.
Perhaps if there were a switch that could be put on the command line to turn off the game mouse and use the hardware mouse instead, that might work.
Is there such a thing?

I think on some laptops there may be a setting to disable the mousepad, but probably not the external mouse. Of course, all you need to do there is unplug the external mouse.
Have you tried playing aroudn with the in-game interface settings for the mouse?

Yeah I did, I am using an external mouse in the game because.... Well.... quite honestly the touchpad thats on teh laptop isnt for me. But the mouse on the screen reacts the same way with either the external usb mouse or the toucpad built into the laptop.
I didnt notice any setting that I could change that would change the onscreen game mouse from the software one that they use to just using a good old fashioned hardware mouse cursor.

There should be a control for the mouse slide scroll speed, IIRC.
Have you tried looking for a updated mouse driver?

No I see the mouse scroll speed, but not a mouse speed. The scroll is fine, but the movement of the mouse is not. Just drawing my mouse in a circle is laggy, pushing it to the side of the screen is not the problem. Once I get to the side of the screen the screen does scroll (takes a couple seconds before it does, but thats okay), it's just trying to get the mouse to the side of the screen or move it anywhere for that matter that is the problem.

What apps are running in the background on your computer?
Have you tried disabling the virus scanner?
Try adjusting the mouse from the control panel MOUSE utility.
Does your system have a mouse calibration utility? Some manufacturer's provide them with their mouse hardware. It may need to be calibrated. It doesn't hurt to check.
