Even with the highlight on mouse over for delete, I sometimes find myself wanting to delete more shrubs and trees but I really don't want to clip a building and lose it.

I found that roads will often get rid of the ambient shrubs.

Click on road tool, paint away
hold down <shift> key paint away to remove the roads!

ambient free, and no risk of building loss.

but isn't the trees and shrubs that the roads remove get removed when you place a building?

I've placed brick makers all over the place before, and they take out trees and shrubs when you place them.

I think the only ones that don't get deleted by either are the resource trees. Pomeagrands? pomygrands? pomaegrands? eh... the apple tree looking things are often in my way. :) but only the delete tool get's rid of them.

I tend not to remove most of the vegetation. As I place buildings, the trees and plants directly underneath them disappear, but I leave all the rest as "decor". I find it looks nicer to have a bunch of greenery on the edge of my city! :D

As for the pommegranates, I like to have a couple pommegranate trees quite close to my city for those years when the flood fails. (especially at the beginning, before I have good government food reserves). If the pommegranate trees are close to your population, people don't have to go very far to forage when there's not enough farmed food. This means that, even though they've had to forage, it hasn't taken all THAT long and the citizens are able to return to their regular duties right away. If the pommegranate trees are on the other end of the map, it takes much longer for the citizens to forage. (or they'll go fishing instead, which also seems to take much longer than running to the pommegranate tree at the end of the block!).

Cheers

Trees and shrubs do get wiped out when you place a building, but not all in that whole area. If you wanted to remove some of the trees left behind is what Sir David is referring to.

I can understand the reasoning behind not being able to delete the date and pomegranate trees, but I find that annoying at times. Like my people would starve it I removed that ONE pomegranate tree that's blocking the space where I want to build my Temple.

Having an additional option for 'delete resources', usable on logically removable resources such as pomegranate trees or oil trees, would be a nice added feature.

I've already had a number of placement issues that would have been easily solved by such an option.

MyrddynX: Me too...

Originally I built shops etc. close to resource trees to maximize production. From above they didn't look that great but I thot' so what.

When I stopped later to take pics, I found that the colorful flowers, flax, henna etc. look quite nice and make for some of my favorite shots!

That's when I took a more "green" approach to the other vegetation... like you said. :)

Am I missing something?

Everyone keeps saying they delete Pomegranite trees. I can't delete these ever, or Date Palms.

Another nice feature would be an Undo for the Delete of a building.

Resources cannot be deleted, and Pomegranite Trees are a resource. Anyone who tells you different is ....... mistaken.

And yes, an "undo delete" would be nice.

I often delete plants before building to get a good sight of resources, often it is not easy to distinguish them in vegetation (p.e. papyrus).

It depends on how the trees and shrubs were created with the editor. It looks like those that can be removed are placed in the player mode of one of the editor features and those that cannot through the world level mode, or vice versa. I've noticed the two modes while tinkering with the editor but haven't sat down to analyze the difference and which is which on my game map.
