Just ran across this article about Civ.
http://pc.ign.com/articles/568/568768p1.html
Basically, Infogrammes sold the rights to future Civ titles, buyer is as yet undisclosed. Interesting...

It might mean something original comes out of the franchise for the first time in years and basic features are not spread across expansion packs galore.

I'm with you Pepy. The Civ series was a downward spiral of disappointment that originally began at a very high level, imho.
Civ III was one of the most crushing disappointments I've had in games over the last few years.

My fav of the whole lot was Civilization Call to Power (activision) I tried test of time but did not think their was any improvement didn't bother with Civ III after reading bad reviews though its on budget now so may pick it up but something new added to the game would be good

I do not like very much turn based games so I did not enjoy very much CIVs.

What about Rome Total War? That is turn based.

You obviously didn't play MoO3 which has set the standard for screwed up implementation of a game design. Civ III (Play the World and Conquests expansions) wasn't even *close* to the disaster that Masters of Orion was.
I was wondering if Firaxis (Sid Meier) didn't buy them back, but you'd think if they did, they'd have had a corresponding press release.

I didn't buy Civ III, based very much on user reviews. My favorite turn-based games were Civ II, MOO II, and Alpha Centauri. I bought MOO III and couldn't even figure out how to get the ship moved so I have not played it since. I thought Civ:Call to Power was okay, but Alpha Centuari was better (though not AC's "expansion pack" which basically changed the entire game).
Caesar III was what got me hooked on the non-turn-based city game. I've actually been playing a lot of MMORPGs lately but got a little burned out. This has been a welcome change.
