View Full Version : Many traiders: bug or opportunity?

I installed the patch a few days ago. Now I'm playing Men-nefer in the grand campaign, in which I'm building a grand pyramid. This takes a long time of course.

It seems that traiders like my city a lot. I think no one has left since the start of this campaign. This results in a large 'camping' area around the place the traiders are supposed to stay. It looks very funny, but it can mess up any city planning.

On the other hand it seems very hard to get any money out of them. Before the patch I think I have seen 800 or so, after the patch it doesn't grow over 30. Of course I'm not playing the same city's, so it's not a fair comparison.

Am I doing something wrong, or is this normal behaviour? Any thoughts are welcome.

Have you tried building more than one marketplace?

That definitely looks like a bug to me. I too am playing Men-nefer, and my traders fit rather neatly into my single marketplace. I'm wishing more and more that they didn't though...
Are they still selling? If they aren't I'd recommend bulldozing them.

I've played Men-nefer, and I've never seen anything like that number of merchants. Very strange!

It does seem like collecting tariffs doesn't pay as well as it used to. I just finished Iunu, and was trading with five peddlers. Collected tariffs varied between 0 and 30.

Most certainly a bug... though all those merchants really look neat :o

And yes, tariffs are very very low since the patch. So low in fact that I no longer dedicate a scribe to that as it is nowhere near worth it.

When my merchant center is full, additional traders camp around it. I agree, tariffs are now really way too low.

I agree it is a MINOR bug, nothing that will inflict w/ your system. Looks like a campground to me. :)

You might upload your game so the devs can take a look. ;)
I'd say bug, but definately a rare one, since no one else has reported it.
That may be one for the devs' "Features Wall". :D

Dancer: Congratulations on an awesome first :D ! Like the others I've never seen this in CotN.

On the other hand, we have bazaars just like this in my town... ;)

It seems that traiders like my city a lot...

Thanks for all the replies.
I finished Men-nefer today, with all the traiders still around. First I did build a second merchant center with no changes. Two years later I buldozed all of them, but that didn't remove the donkeys or the traiders. It seems nothing works, they all still liked my awfull city way too much to leave.
