View Full Version : Can't play Grand Campaign

I played through the tutorials without any real problems. I only reach the minimum requirements, so the performance wasn't exactly tip-top, but other than that everything was fine.

Now I'm ready to play the Grand Campaign. I select any of the three cities for the first scenario, and then click Open. The game crashes at that point. I downloaded a driver update for my video card and it had no effect. I don't know what else to do.

Try the patch. It might help. Who knows? :D

The patch didn't resolve anything.

I had the same problem as you Scott when I was in beta. However the retail version solved it. Have you tried defragging your harddrive and updating everything?

Looks like you're running an S3 ProSavage DDR for your video card. I believe that's below the min sys (doesn't have hardware T&L) You will have to upgrade your video card in order to play.

I have the same problem, tutorial works .... well OK, but when I load the first real mission the game aborts. I have posted elsewhere and it appear my video card Viper 770 with Nvidia TNT2 chip set, doesn't support T&L. I could play a save file from another PC, but when I open the scenario screen, it crashes. There is a list of acceptable video cards here (http://www.tiltedmill.com/forums/showthread.php?t=4042)

Oh well. I needed a new video card anyway.

But why was I able to play the tutorials?

I've seen this a couple of times though. Someone will be able to play the tutorials or the demo with a barely-below min spec system and then not be able to play the campaign. All I can come up with is that it has to do with the map size. The tutorial maps are smaller than the scenarios in the campaign, so maybe you were able to squeak by on those. As I said, I'm not sure.

That said, with a new video card, if you have any further problems, let us know.

I Have the same problem, I went to load the game and it kept crashing so I came here to get a solution

I have the ProSavage card, I assumed it would work since I play Sims 2 on it and the requirements are about the same.

But none the less I am getting a new video card, ATI Radeon 9200 128 megs. Nothing to fancy, am just a poor mother of 4 kids so I cant afford anything at those 200 bucks ... ebay is my best friend lol

but thanks for the help here saved me from asking the question :o

You should have no problems running Children of the Nile with a Radeon 9200. Enjoy.

I've had the same problem. I can run the tutorials (and the demo) but the screen goes black and the game crashes out when I attempt to run a camp-aign or scenario. My video card is a SiS 300/305 (which I see is on the unsupported list). Guess I'll have to upgrade also!
At least this thread sorted my problem - thanks

Mouse, it's a SiS card not a Nvidia card. 61.77 is only for Nvidia cards.

He also posted that back in December, so he's either playing now or he's given up ;)
