Hi,
I was just wondering where the envoys come from. They seem to appear all of a sudden. Are they trained at school? Can I do something to increase their number or should I just have patience and let it happen.
Any thoughts?

I think they're trained within the palace and appear roughly one a year. There's nothing you can do to hurry them up that I know of.

Trained in palace, based on prestiege. Probably one a year as GillB said. Based on prestiege. :)

I don't think prestige has anything to do with it. I have had very low prestige and still had envoys appear regularly. Increasing educated elite is a prestige driven thing. :D

The number of envoys you can have is limited by the prestige you have :) .

 Really? I never noticed that connection. I always seemed to have them when I needed them and never paid that much attention to it. :o
Guess I'll start paying closer attention to save face! :p

We have been told that it does limit it, it's just never been an issue for me. I use mine too fast to see what maximum I could have lol

It's right there in the in-game help under "Envoys":
--
You attract 1 envoy a year. The total number of envoys you may have is limited by prestige. You feed them and otherwise pay upkeep at the palace while training them. Be cautious on sending them out on long, frivolous tasks since you have only a limited number at any time.
--
So far the scenarios need so many mountains of resources to fufill each goal that the main limitation is building up the food, not envoys. I only send out one at a time because that's all I can afford. Anyone see a scenario where more than one envoy is actually useful?

I remember one scenario that needed 5 envoys - I think it was an exploration site and one that was needed to complete one of the requirements of the scenario. Sorry, I forget which scenario it was.

The Ibises (stork) brings them!
They are trained in the palace. :)

For Itjtawy, you need 5 Envoys to open the western trading hub. It seemed like a lot of envoys were needed that scenario - I was ready to get the Tin mine and then the mercenaries on my side, but had no envoys...oh well!

EDIT: Wrote one thing but meant another...oops!

Like Bugsy, I use envoys almost as fast as they're produced, at least during my mid-game phase.
It seems like the only thing I consistently wait impatiently for is envoys, and bricks to open the Grand Obelisk site (hrmph, pet peeve on this one). :D

I knew that someday we'd have to have this talk.
Ok, when a mommy envoy and a daddy envoy are very much in love, they like to express their love by... um...
Go ask your mother.

Once scenario (Itjtaway, I think ) requires you to send 5 envoys out to a specific site. Something about a lost trading post.

Yep, I just played Itjtawy. There's fragments of an old map found, and you send out five envoys all out there at once to try and figure it out.

It appears that the number of Envoys is determined by the Enhancement level of your Palace & not prestige, unless you refer to the prestige you get from Enhancing your Palace. ;)
With no Palace Enhancements, you can get up to 3 Envoys. The Max number of Envoys for a fully Enhanced Palace appears to be 15.
More study is needed. There might be exceptions, but I think this is how it works.

Md you should load a winning save for Diaspolis (1000 prestige) and if the envoys are the same, you are right... you might want to also check if there is a limit to how many envoys a site needs to activate in the editor.
Edit: I don't have acess to the game right now so I can't do it myself, however, I can suggest where to start.
Edit:2 Changed 2000 to 1000

Do you still have a limit of 15 envoys? and you should still check the editor to see if there is a limit to how many envoys you can set a site to require.

Yup & 50 Graduates. I don't think 50 Graduates is a Max, though. IIRC, I have had more. No idea on Max Graduates. I would guess that is a function of Nobles & Lux children.
I stumbled upon these findings while playing Diospolis & TH evolution testing. I also ran some tests on some saves & noticed the Envoy number wasn't changing.
I wanted to determine exactly when Envoys are produced by the Palace. Game time & Season. Got to get back to that one some time & many others as well. ;)
