View Full Version : Egypt the Tale
I and another person have during a couple of days developed a text-based Ancient Egypt RPG. It's not fully done and we have no players so far.
My questions is simply, how many would be interested? I made a poll!
More information will come when the site is ready for playing.

My response doesn't fit the answers:
- I love RPGs, but not so hot on computer- or especially text-based.
- Besides, I'm hugely busy as it is.
However, best of luck, and keep us updated on how the game goes! :D

Is it fantasy egypt? In other words, is it going to be strictly "reality based" or is there going to be magic and wondrous beasties like sphinxes, anubises, shapeshifting kitties? If thats the case, then I think I might play for sure, but if not, I might give it a try. :)

I vote for for: What do you do in an RPG?
If I knew what was involved, I could be interested. :)

RPG: Role Playing Game. You make up a character, and then you play that person, kind of like acting.

Oh sorry, I should have been more specific. I meant more along the lines of how it works. Are there certain times that people get together and play, is there a particular theme/storyline each day/week/month that people contribute to, are the characters development guided in any way (ie can you have 27 pharaohs?), is it more like a forum where people stay 'in character', do people have different ranks and abilities...? Stuff like that :) Also, I suppose, what's the purpose? To have fun, of course, but by doing what?

Good questions! I will try to answer them for you. There is no special time people gather to play, instead everyone write when they can. Tough you have to write one post every second week or you will be deleted. I don't know if what we got right now is to be called a story. The game is about a village named Abydos and everyone who joins contribute it's forth-growing. The nobles families are fighting for the Pharao throne, this could be with military or political. And no you can't have 27 pharaos, there are only one. And people have ranks such as shopkeeper, luxury shopkeeper, priest, scribe, city guard, city guard officer and so on. Abilities could be you are great at building furniture or an outstanding architecht... you get the idea.
The idea is indeed to have fun, but for what purpose? tricky question, why do you go to a theme park? to have fun. Instead we create a second life where the options are far more then in real life. I hope that answered some questions.
And no there is no magic and living sphinxes(yet) it's "reality" but remember this is absolutly not historical correct.

Bleh, if its just going to be CotN the RPG, whats the point? I could easily just turn the game on and play it. Sorry, but I dont think I will play after all. =S

Thanks Toth. I don't really have the time to devote to it just yet (and my legendary abilities inthe field of procrastination would probably see me deleted within a very short period!) so I won't join, but I might go and look at it from time to time, to get the idea, if that's okay. Then when I have time... :)

Well, there is big difference and yo can't compare an RPG with a Strategy building game. Second, here you interact with real players which is one major thing. But perhaps magic and such wouldn't be such a bad idea. I will think about it.

Toth: Excellent marketing research response! Bet you'll get at least one more player with that addition ;) .
BTW: You haven't mentioned two key benefits of your online game... you don't have to have a supercomputer'n'graphics card... and you don't have to have a copy of CotN to play... :D !
lycka till! :)

Alright Toth, thanks for being open about change :) And Sitearm, you seem to be fixated on marketing! lol
Another question: Is there going to be some sort of character creation rules, or is it just gonna be freeform?

Depends what you mean by rules.. the character can be like you wan't but has to choose a job of some sort. This job could be almost anything tough.
Sitearm9: Haha, should I hire someone that takes care of the marketing?
Tackar :)

Successful Initiatives require three roles: Visionary, Marketer, and Organizer.
The Visionary creates the concept/the product/the service...
The Marketer attracts the clients/their attention/their resources...
The Organizer structures for the reach/the sustainability/the growth
In the beginning you may have to be all three...
It's a model... ;)

character creation, like in a regular RPG game... such as the stats and stuff for D&D characters... its not a necessary part, but you should set limits to what the characters can be, or do.
Like you dont want super beautiful women abounding, or muscle bound war machines... stuff like that.

Hmm.. nope won't be such things, I trust people make trustworthy characters or they won't get accepted. Noone is perfect not even in a fantasy world.
I've been thinking about your idea with magic and stuff. And I get more interested every second, due to the other admins resignation or lack of online time I wonder if you would like to help me shape up such a thing? :P
