View Full Version : game speed problem
The game works fine, I've learned to build my cities, in a few words I'm enjoying myself. But now I wanted to try the speeding option while waiting for a project to be finished and THE problem came: when ever I click +, the game speed is 0.50 and it won't change anymore what ever I try. (I finished that city just by letting the game play by itself. The next city I had to start several times before the speed seemed to be OK.) I've made some experiments: started Nekhen again, clicked + key and voilą: speed is gone. It can't be that my PC won't able to handle this, because the map is almost empty now and other bigger cities sofar without slowing down.
The first save file is the slow one, the second one is just before I hit the + key.
Are there any need for driver upgrading? Thanks in advance!

This is on a laptop they do throttle down speed to save the battery life. Not sure if there is a newer driver for your video card but there should be one. Your driver is from March 2004 which is much older than Ati drivers that the game was tested on. It would be good idea to increase the size of your swap file too.
Yes this is a laptop but I don't use the battery when playing, actually it is out of my laptop right now.
Sorry my English, but what is a swap file? Where do I find it?

Don't worry about your English your doing just fine :D Swap file = page file under XP if you look at your DX file it shows that it's quite small since you have the space on your hard drive I would set the minimum to 600mb and the maximum to 1500mbs. I believe laptops use the power saving mode even when not being run on the battery. Since I don't have a laptop I'm not sure if you can change that in the bios or not.
Thank you mouse. I did some research to find this file (my windows xp is not in English, so that's why the research ;) ), the size is 768 - 1536 for C drive, recommended minimum is 766. So I didn't change anything. Is this what you ment? I can use a pc allright, but its "inner life" is still a bit of a mystery for me.

Kiya set the swap file for minimum double your system memory so on yours is should be 1024 with top 1536 and se if this helps as its a laptop you may want to try omega drivers http://www.omegadrivers.net/ to get updated ones as ATI dont always Produce for mobilaty cards.
Thanks NeilV, you bothered to look for my dxdiag, at Christmas eve! :) :)
I'll change those numbers.
Laptop gamers, anyone tried speeding the game?
Merry Christmas to everyone!
