Demo .exe gives page fault

I've installed Children of the Nile demo, to absolutely no avail.

I've tried installing to folders in different places on my PC, including the default folder the setup program uses. Nothing.

When I think it's installed, I click on CoTN.exe and get this:

Attached is my DXDiag.txt file.

I can't even get into the very beginning of the demo, and I am extremely interested in this game, so am gnashing my teeth over this ridiculous error that shouldn't be occurring.

Please advise what I might do that I haven't already tried.

found this in your dxdiag, could be causing your problem.....

Display Tab 1: Hardware-accelerated Direct3D 8 is not available because the display driver does not support it. You may be able to get a newer driver from the hardware manufacturer.

I think your video card may be the problem. It's almost certainly too old to support T&L. You could try looking for newer drivers (your current ones date back to 1999) but I'm not altogether sure that will help.
