Einstein @ home is a program that uses your computer's idle time to search for spinning neutron stars (also called pulsars) using data from the LIGO and GEO gravitational wave detectors. Einstein @ home is a World Year of Physics 2005 project supported by the American Physical Society (APS) and by a number of international organizations.

What does one's computer do when/if it should happen to find said pulsars? Still sounds interesting though.

oh ok so let me get this straight, there is a programe that can make your computer search for spinning neutron stars whilst it is idle but when it is cranked up I cannot even get it to find one little thing I am working on...I mean I know it is there somewhere but my computer cannot find it....well there ya go then.

After your install the program and join the project you will be sent a number of small data files that the Einstein @ Home application will number crunch and when each result is done mark it ready for transfer. The next time you are online the files will be uploaded and more data files will be downloaded for your computer to work on.
I run the similar Seti @ Home program. Have done for the past 6 years. You can setup the program to run only when idle or 24/7 if you want it to and your machine can handle it running full time.
You won't know if you finds something unless they notify you.
It's just one way of making your computer useful.
