Actually C4 should have an expansion of 'walkers'. But these shouldnt be the dim bots that we saw in the older games.

Rich Romans had nice homes that had extensive decorations and rebuilding done to them. Craftsmen were imported from other parts of Italy and the empire to do the work (and brought in materials even moreso). In Rome shops DID deliver and craftsmen went to worksites. Thus it would be proper for C4 to have more than a few craft industries whos workers 'walk'.

They also had the city firewatch who walked the streets and inspectors/officials, etc...

Another idea (if TM hasnt already) -- small resteraunts/taverns were legion in Rome.

If it really was so that Roman shops delivered, could there be two kinds of shops as it was in a couple of older CBs? Ordinary people do their shopping themselves like in CoTN but when patricians reach a certain higher level they expect home delivery (or a lot of servants anyway). I don't expect a patrician lady to do her ordinary shopping herself  ;)

In CotN there were servants who were 'hired' by noble families and would help the lady of the house do the shopping. This would alleviate the need for home delivery of goods somewhat, but I do like the idea of delivered goods for patrician families if it doesn't add too much to programming complexity.

or even the delivery lady from the market can make rounds around patrician houses selling goods and expecting fat denarii tips!!

Versatility....
Different shops vary some doing only walkin customeres others delivering, while others do both. The upper class did walk about the forum and the different commercial areas (ie- street of the Goldsmiths) to visit specialty shops. More mundane supplies/goods would be left to slaves or delivered by the sellers.

It might be interesting for a shop to adapt to its customers -- turn out more goods to match the local demads (ie- pottery shop turning out higher quality goods in a rich area vs. cheaper stuff for a low class neighborhood). Minor differences in the shops motif could be visible to differentiate the difference...

A Patrician Lady would not do her own shopping. She would send out a servant to do it for her. I think the Patrician Class should have some sort of servants ... if TM wants to stay away from the slave issue that's cool. The weathy would still have servants. People they paid to do the little things they didn't want to. Like cooking, cleaning, managing thier estates, teaching thier children. These are just more possible citizen tasks to add to the game.

Aumtehoutep, I agree. In CoTN the noble houses could use servants but if the pharaoh (meaning you the player) didn't build servants' huts they did their own shopping.
In C4 the very upper patricians (will there be such?) could just definitively need servants for shopping. In the meantime they use their time for leisure hunting, yachting, buying jewelry and such. And in senate.

A side note, the wives of the patricians would do a lot of the shopping themselves. Of course not the every day things like food and wine, but there was a lot that she wanted to choose herself instead of letting a mere slave make the choice. Then again, she wouldn't carry anything she bought herself :p .
