I haven't had time to read all the other topics in this forum so maybe something like this has been suggested before... But anyways:

I have since I finished Caesar 3 a long time a go thought that a system with deeper education for the workers could be great. For example you can build several levels of education places:

Primary school (basic education):
- For children and teenagers

Worker school (for industry workers etc):
- Farmers
- Industry workers
- Prefectures (Maybe some time in war school too)

University (for engineers, teachers etc):
- Engineers
- Teachers for primary school
- Teachers for worker school
- Teachers for universities
- Teachers for war school
- Priests

War school (for warriors):
- Train legionares, javelin throwers, horseriders etc
- Prefectures

Some things doesn't need to have education like:
- Market workers
- Stadium workers
- Granary workers
- Warehous workers

Of course one should be able to hire workers without education, for example teachers, from the beginning, but the effect the give shouldn't be as good as a well educated teacher. So in time teachers would be better educated an gives a better effect to students. One can think of several such things that could happen with poorly educated people:

- Gods can become angry with poorly educated priests
- Riots will happen easier/be stopped slower with poorly educated prefectures
- Buildings will collapse faster with poorly educated engineers
- Warriors will become less deadly/die faster with poor war education
- Food takes longer to be produced with poorly educated farmers
- Industry items takes longer to be produced with poorly educated workers
And so on...

This would of course make the aspect of playing much more deeper and perhaps a bit more difficult and time consuming, but I think it is a good idea. It would at least make it more realistic.

I agree its a good idea to add greater granularity to the education model in Caesar. And I am generally in favour of thinking up smart ways for adding useful new buildings to the game.

But we must keep in mind that what is being modelled is the Roman era, which had a far less formal education system than what we have today.

But it was still better than "THE DARK AGES" echoes :D

only patricians were able to get higher education besides scholars. of course merchants and others in the middle class hed to know how to read and write. the other sector of the population, farmers servants slaves, had none.

I imagine that most form of training took the form of apprenticeships (albeit without a shiny certificate at the end). And if you were a slave you learnt on the job as it were...
