Hi All:
I did a quick search of this forum and didn't see anything like this, but please excuse me if this idea has been suggested before.
Personally, I'd love to see a "first person" mode for the game. I know that in CoTN you can move the camera just about anywhere and take a look, but I'd love a mode that actually gave you FPS like controls to walk about the city. Simple WASD and mouselook would be sufficient, but I think it'd be great to be able to walk down the streets. I don't mean taking over a character on screen or anything like that, just a camera that is at "head-height" above the ground and controls like a normal FPS.
Just a thought, and it certainly wouldn't be a "make or break" feature for the game, but it'd be a cool addition, IMHO!
well, that's my $0.02.

Thats a nice idea if it is simply the ability to "walk" through your city and the countryside from the viewpoint of a person. Although I wouldn't want effort spent on doing so to detract from the overall game. I have bought too many games over the years where the only thing the update (IV over III for example) has added has been 'bells and whistles' like this.

You can. :)
In CoTN, select a person. Select follow behind. Scroll all the way in.
Make sure that you are level to the ground and also have selected, in settings, under the interface, first person view when zoomed in. :D
~OR~
Use your mouse to move forward, backward, or side to side while pressing the tild(~) key to pan up, down, or left to right. :D

Right, as Max-1, said CotN has this capability to some degree. Each citizen has a info menu that appears when you right click on him/her. Then there are two "view buttons" will let you select a vantage point from which the camera will follow the citizen. Then you just scroll all the way in, as Max-1 explained and the camera moves around the city streets as if you are there.
If you look at some of the USERSET galleries on the CotN web page you will see some screen captures made from this zoomed in vantage point.
I don't have any screenshots of that exact vantage point but this one below is close and should give you at least a taste of what it is we are talking about.

I suggested this 2 or 3 times already.
Would be nice to walk around (on the ground) using standard controls and not go thru things or have people walk thru you. They will need to up the quality of their rendering (texture details and polygon counts) because the close ups look pretty bad at the current level (which is probably why they wont have such a feature at any real priority -- too much work for too little payback).

don't forget it's not CotN and the engine will be different. So it might be possible to have a good rendering.

I know that you can KINDA achieve this in CoTN. Really, I'm just suggesting that there be a camera mode we can "lock" at head-height and then use WASD to move around. That's not quite the same as being able to zoom low to the ground and drag yourself around with the mouse. Also, when you follow a character around in CoTN, you have to go where the AI takes you, which is not the same as being able to move around yourself! It's a nit-picky kind of thing, and I admit it wouldn't be a HUGE feature for the game, but it'd be kinda cool, IMHO.

It doesnt matter, you still have to create all the texture assets and 3D models which = lots of $$$$$$$$$$. THe engine might be able to do a proper LOD (level of detail) mechanism to make the rendering efficient, but you need to have the higher quality asssets to do it. You may even need better animations -- on close examination the figures gestures etc.. look very crude (instantly noticable).
