I am curious as to what buildings will be in C IV?

I remember the Basilica was in CII, one of the most decorative and useless (as far as game mechanics) buildings there were. It was removed from CIII, so will it make a return, and what other new building can we hope to expect?

Pantheon might be impressive.

A selection of different Temples might be good.

Golden House of Nero ??

Flavian Amphitheater of course.

I don't really care if they are useless, as long as they look good!

I personally would love to see Carracalla's Baths, Trajan's forum, The Pantheon,
Nero's Domus Aurelius (house of gold), and I would love to see the odeum from c2 return

William Morris, founder of the Arts & Crafts Movement said "Have nothing in your houses which you do not know to be useful or believe to be beautiful." The same could be said for our cities. There should be no place for the useless or the ugly. Hmmm, (thinks) I suppose I could put this on the quotes thread

Agreed and you've got to agree that monuments haven't always been useful throughout the series, right?

I suppose usefulness, like beauty, is in the eye of the beholder. :)

Monuments that you can walk inside of are the best. They keep the rain off and sometimes have excellent exhibits or views.

Monuments that you have to walk or drive around are tougher to appreciate, especially if they're isolated on an island in the middle of auto traffic!

However, any monument with nude statues is definitely worthy! (lol)

(p.s. name your US or UK or __ monuments for each category, please... ) (grin)

OK - well I suppose in the UK the Tower of London comes in Category 1. You can walk inside it, it keeps off the rain and it's dead interesting. Crown jewels, implements of torture, dungeons etc to name just a few.

Category 2 I think might be Stonehenge. It looks great from afar and is also dead interesting but you can't get near it now unless it's the solstice and you are a Druid or something. Plebs like me aren't allowed to touch anymore as it's in danger of being damaged.

Category 3. Well it's not UK so I suppose it's cheating a bit but Michelango's statue of David in Florence has always intrigued me because his hands are so out of proportion with his ...erm...other bits. I mean just compare the size of his thumbs ....yes well....ahem(coughs discreetly and looks away) :o

My favourite monument is the Eiffel Tower, plus it is useful as well (radio mast, viewing platform, restaurants). My favourite monumental statue is that to Yuri Gagarin in Moscow.

Hmmm, I suppose you could add Buckingham Palace to category 1 too, its huge, useful cos people do live there, keeps you dry and you get to learn about our Royal Family history;
http://www.photoguide.to/london/buckinghampalace.html

For category 2, there's always the Angel of the North, a modern construction, but it can be seen from the motorways and I suppose it looks ok; http://www.gateshead.gov.uk/angel/pics2.htm

And for category 3, in Hyde Park, London, there is a kind of tour of old statues, the largest of which is "The Wellington Monument", a nude statue of Achilles, which was erected around 1622, hold on to your hats before clicking this link girls, http://www.victorianweb.org/sculpture/warmonuments/10.htmlhttp://bestsmileys.com/blushing/2.gif

1 could be Le louvre (you cans walk for monhts in it and still have things to see...) or elsethe catacombes : it's inside, no rain, and beautiful views on mounts of skelettons...
2 Le louvre could be that, surounded by paris' bad traffic... otherwise the arc de triomphe It's litterally surrounded by traffic(jams)
3 Le louvre could also be here a second option is the "bois de Vincennes" though it's not really a monument (though a place to visit) and the nudes aren't precisely statues...

And I'm only speaking about Paris, here! :D

name one or many.

I stand corrected. All monuments had some "use" (besides beauty) one way or another, if only it was to raise your monument rating in Pharaoh :) .

it would be good to see more ritual applications concerning monuments. like holding special services and festivals at the pantheon.

Achilles rocks! (or is that, "Achille's Rocks"? hm...)

That "Angel" monument reminds me... lemme' see if I can find it... here it is... a Big Giant Cross in Indiana... saw it this summer (that's someone else's photo)

Most likely more complicated but it may vary how much more complicated.

Different building may give different ways to solve problems (different ways of achieving the same game goal). Example a trade house to import food versus a farm of one type or a farm of another type or a fishery -- all as ways to provide food for your population.

Some may just have different appearance to a type of building that does the same function.

There was a pedestal made from the bronze prows of captured warships in the Forum in Rome that orators would give speeches from.

The Rostra :) . Now, there's another addition for Thucy's villa idea! After a naval combat, you can add a prow of a warship to your city's own Rostra.

And if you right-click the politician in case you'll notice that his speech is about revolting against your governorship. If you then notice the crowd lynching the politician, you know your favour with the plebs is still good. However, if you'd notice them cheering for the politician :p

I suspect that we'll see that standard roman caesar monuments, Flavian Amphitheatre, Circus Maximus, (purposely used for entertainment)

The Rostra would be a great addition to the forum, Temples for various gods are already to be included. Baths of somesort should be included, I think the baths in c3 were much too small. Baths were very large and had many different rooms/pools for various parts of society - male/female dignified/general public. etc

if you just take a greater glance at the screenshots, you might get a better idea of the type of buildings that might be on there. of course you may not know most of the buildings on there, but can you guess?
