View Full Version : So how long a Vagrant?

This is more board-related and less game-related, but I figured "Eh...why not ask anyway?"
I'm a bit discomfited being a vagrant and was wondering how many postings I must make before moving up in society :)

Welcome to the board.
The change from vagrant to villager occurs around 25 posts. Then 50 posts from villager to the next level.
I wonder why people are so concerned with this.
I've been a memember of other boards for years and years and only post on them occasionally. My ranking there is invariably some "junior grade" but it doesn't effect what I have to contribute or what I have to say when I say it.
Don't worry about "rank." As long as you contribute to the board in a positive way no one else really cares what rank you have. :)

Aw, Keith's OK, just don't get him started about the "good old days when men were men and women were women and real gamers used abacuses not computers, dagnabit!" ( hee hee hee :p )

Hi, I can completely understand your question. It was one of my first questions as well simply because it is not apparent why people have different titles and their existence lends a club-like feel to the forum that can be intimidating to new members. One solution is to have no accolades at all. A better one is to make clear somewhere what the levels represent in terms of activity. And here is an important point. The titles only reward activity, not the quality of the input. So you may marvel at the fact that someone is an overseer, but not realise at first that they have gained this rank by having submitted many posts of dubious value. :) (now I shall sit back and wait for blasts of indignation... smiling. I will be the first to admit that I have posted some 'fluff" posts so there is probably an argument to be made that light humour serves a useful role in forums).

Mmmmm, abacuses....abaci....um.....lalalalala
I've also been known on other forums to fluff post sometimes, but I TRY to make it related at least a little. :) sometimes it's hard to shut me up, however. I tend to write as I speak and think, so sometimes I don't realize when I ramble.
Um....as shown above...heh. heh. bye. :)

Oh I didn't have anyone in mind! I used the title overseer as that is what I am at the moment :) But seriously (webmaster please listen up), there should be a small table someone explaining the titles... as well as the Luminary accolate.

Yes... they volunteered over a year ago before Children came out. Not so much moderators as friendly helpers aka "angels" on another forum a lot of them came from.
I've been here a year myself. This is the first game forum I ever began using.

Was it this or simply a title awarded to those that did a good job beta testing Children of the Nile?

It was way before beta.
Here is where it was advertised on the CotN site...
http://www.immortalcities.com/cotn/luminaries/about.php
And here is a thread on it...

The Luminary program sounds like something I would have really enjoyed getting into, if I had known about it and the game back then.

Have fun, Ladyphoenix!
I'm sure you will find yourself a nice house to move into soon. And after that you get to learn a nice craft to keep yourslef and family in common and luxury goods. And then (I think) you get to sell the goods. And then ???
* not sure what comes after that * not sure it matters *

After that, not that it matters much, you can stand all day long on the top of a unfinished pyramid enjoying the beautiful view and wondering where are those lazy labourers of yours. Or your Pharaoh might want you to spend your time in a cult temple in cool shadows where you stand wondering will a basalt thing ever arrive. Let us hope your master will never send you to a quarry far far away. ;) :D

Welcome ladyphoenix (you vagrant you). I too understand your question. When I started playing and posting here, I thought they should maybe start you out with "craftsman." vagrant DOES sound so lowly... BUT I DON'T MAKE THE RULES!!

It won't take you long to see who gives the bestest advices. :p
No names mentioned of who I appreciate MOST but a hearty thanks to ALL who help the newbies... as well as those of us who occasionally become confused. :D

Thanks for all the warm welcomes. I like this board very much so far. It discusses a game which I adore, and also the people so far seem more intelligent and mature than the average web-user these days. It's a welcome change to see debates about ancient history as a norm. :)

Completely agree Chazsi. As far as the confusion goes that's a constant in my case :o

I was hoping there're some answers in here about the REAL vagrant :D
How do I get them off the streets in CotN? The number doesn't seem to drop despite economic expansion (as in more common/luxury shophouses, brick*, etc)?
So far I've had 7 so far, and I do wonder how to give them a livelihood? :(
Offer more jobs to your citizens. Everyone want something better, it's a kind of ladder system. Farmers want better jobs and vagrants might become your new farmers. :)
If vagrants have no other way to get livelihood they beg or even might commit crime.

Yes Kiya is right, and you can also get rid of em permanently if you keep deleting the tents, but you will get more help in the http://www.tiltedmill.com/forums/forumdisplay.php?f=18
section.
