View Full Version : Villa building set and place in game mechanism

A villa was its own independant kingdom and could be quite complex with all the lands attached to it.
A whole selection of villa outbuildings that the player gets to place -- like building a whole little city by itself (A city builder within a city builder....)
Actually if TM has any sense this would be a whole alternate theme to the set of scenarios -- a prebuilt town on the edge of the 'city map' (supplying some needs) and a villa that needs to be built and managed...

errr... why begin a separate thread on this?

Because its a different idea than the other thread.
This one is about an entire suborganization within the game that makes a 'villa' (or plantation or industrial site or legion base) its own semi independant entity.
It calls for multiple different game social mechanisms than only a 'city'.
Its also more visible to the game staff instead of being buried in another thread.

I don't see the distinction myself between what you are saying here and the other thread, but I will not die in a ditch over it.

as much as i would like to see more micromanagement in c4, we can't swy from the big picture: you got a province to manage. thus i could order the construction of my villa and the enhancements too. the rest of villa affairs--food, goods, mantainence, safety, water--i could leave to a.i.

I think the distinction he is trying to make here is that he views the idea for a villa in the other thread as kind of a single screen, possibly 2-D picture that is altered by different graphics depicting different options like gardens or a bathhouse.
And in this thread he is talking about kind of a mini-city villa that would have its own 3-D map and be a sort of mini-city builder all by itself, but more personalized than a city.
Am I correct here?

I am not sure myself, as I was envisaging a 3D villa as the gamer's home that can be expanded between missions to reflect the player's progress through the game, rather than a villa for every province.

Well, I am glad the 2nd thread was started because, until the little "discussion" below, I didn't know what this suggestion was about anyway.
I thought it was just about making the little minature houses look different, not about "living" in them between games, or separately from the main city, or whatever.
So... good clarification all! I love intelligent, cooperative brainstorming that leads to cool new ideas and realizations. And if there's one thing we know for sure, it is that repetition and elaboration indicate interest.

Yes, being on the 3D map (except it may also be on the same map adjacent to a city) as well as a potential center of a scenario itself. The 2D thing (like a civ2 throneroom) is kinda limited, though we could have that too. A Roman's house really didnt have a central room that everything centered on -- it might be better as the 'palace' audience hall.....
