sorry if it has.....but TM will you add a thing that will make sure your computer is able to play the game when you load it....or something via the demo version that will let us know.....I cannot remember wich game did this but I loaded one once and it ran through a list and ticked off evrything it needed to be able to run.

good idea, that way if it doesn't play at least the frustrated gamer has some idea as to why not and what step to take to remedy the matter.

I know this would probably cut down a bit on sales of the game, but rather than include it with the game make a utility available on the official website for download so anyone interested can test their system before they buy the game.

The "frustration" comes from having spent X dollars on a game and then finding it doesn't run on your hardware.

Of course making a testing program that would truly reflect whether or not the actual game would run would be difficult. Anyone programmer can probably produce a utility that simply checks to see if the proper hardware exists, while handy they don't really "test" whether or not the game will acutally run on the said system. Producing a program utility that would truly put a system to the test might be just as costly as the game itself.

The old Sierra games used to come with that annoying step in the install process that tested for the amount of hard drive space, sound card setup, etc. If your system didn't meet the requirements the install process more or less got stuck at that stage and you had to abort.

Whether or not a proper testing utility could be created and included would come down to the usual two denominators...TIME and MONEY.

For now your best bet is to rely on the old "Mark 1" eyeball and read the system requirements on the website and box and check your system hardware manager before you buy and install the game. Even then it is still no guaranty that the game will run on your system even if you meet the hardware or software requirements.

alot of games which use a basic 3d engine have higher operation stats. it is more likely that such games have the checking function.

C4 will attract gamers outside the Battlefield 2/FEAR set. It's important that the game run *well* on a mid-range rig, whatever that is. Perhaps the 'checker' should automaticly set some tuning options given a players rig.

From the released screenshots the detail doesn't seem too bad but the horizon is large so a draw distance option would be great.

I couldn't agree with that more, UglyGuy. The problem with "average" in the computer world is that it never stays average for long. Once upon a time my "high end" computer consisted of an overclocked 66mhz processor, 4 megs of ram, and a 1200 baud modem. Design for a mid-range computer now and you run the risk of having your product looked upon as low-grade when it's released. Design for a computer slightly farther up the scale, and you chance turning away potential customers who don't quite meet the specs.
That being said, I'd like to see the game designed to run well in widowed mode. Oh yeah, and dancing girls :D

A 3-d (DirectX) game can't run in a window unless there's something new in DX8 or 9 I don't know of.
