I just went to Amazon.com and they said the release date is Sept. 15, 2006. Is that just a generic date for fall or do you think its the real deal? If this has already been posted...soorrrry, I'm just very anxious. Wal mart says it'll ship 9-12...curiouser and curiouser...

Typically they post dates so they can get people to pre-order the game. The official release date hasn't been announced as yet.

Considering the other Rome games coming out, I wouldn't be suprised if they push it to Nov/Dec to keep it fresh for the Christmas season.

USA thanksgiving date? That would be Nov and probably perfect for Xmas as don't US stores mostly wait until after to gear up for Xmas?

I really doubt it, King, but have no idea. Sierra/Vivendi runs this release show, it appears. Them, perhaps.

It says this official guide will have 270 pages.  270 pages. Well, a lot of reading for a game there.:)

Works for me! I miss having one for COTN. I have Pharaoh & Zeus.

After reading 270 pages of official game guide is there anything left for me to find out myself? (I have never bought any game guides nor read one before. I have only the manuals that came with my games.) I love finding things out myself. If I get stuck real bad I'll ask for help here (on the game forums).

I might buy it just for the novelty and to complete the collection:D

I will use one so I don't have to wear out my cd drive reloading a scenario all the time to help players. On the old Impressions board, I used their maps & walkthroughs to refresh my memory, spelling & what I did during a scenario instead of just looking at my final saves.

I have a terrible memory.

With COTN, especially on large city-saves, I have to go off-line & close-down everything to run on max graphics details. Then reboot to reinstall security & whatnot to come back online.

Too bad there wasn't one for Emperor.

I have a running joke with Keith from the old Impressions board that he can't remember. There was an Amazon C3 guide in "new" condition (the claim) for $212 dollars. Keith said he refused to pay that much for a book.

No, I didn't buy it.

Anyone that would pay that much for a old game guide is nuts. Besides there is so much free information and advice readily available that the guides are basically worthless anyway. For some people game guides may be handy when the game is new, but after a few months one would be silly to pay for one at any price other than "free."

The only game guide I ever bought was for the original Sid Myers "Railroad Tycoon", and I didn't buy it until I had been playing the game for more than year already.

I prefer to solve problems on my own and develop my own game strategy.

Exacty, Keith. I have guides I've never read, but still buy them if they are available. Reading a walkthrough before you play it is CHEATING. You need to fail many times, before using one passes the need test.

I'm just as bad. I always buy the strategy guides as a source of background information, but rarely read them before "solving" a game. In a way, I consider them the "real" manual: the kind of documentation you'd get in the 80s and early 90s, as opposed to the thin, un-informative booklets you get today. I pick up 2-3 games a month, and often I end up asking myself why, when I see the anorexic "manuals" and the CD in the generic DVD case. I realise that times have changed, but darn it, I *liked* the gimmicks we used to get some twenty years ago! I have ressorted to buy Collector's Edition, which is a bit of a cheesy and expensive resolution, but if I can "buy" the feeling of having gotten my money's value for an extra ten bucks, then that works for me.

Exactly, Cironir. I just stopped at Best Buy to get my third copy of COTN, cuz I cracked #1 when I spilled my jewel case stack on the floor & now still don't have a backup (Well the cracked one still works, but I bet I couldn't install from it. About 1/2 inch from the center outwards.). They didn't have it (Yes, I yelled at them! ), so I got Civ4 (don't tell anyone) & strategy guide.

I also bought the strategy guide for AOE3, although I have already completed the entire three Campaigns.

I try to stay out of computer stores, cuz I spend lots of money & never get what I came for. Amazon is cheaper ;) & you always get what you need.
