Celtic Woman (http://www.celticwoman.com/)

Gorgeous & excellent.

The link has sample music. The cd is great & the dvd of their show is the very best I have ever seen!

The glow of their faces, the smile in their eyes & the power of their performance will absolutely knock your socks off!

Try it!

I've seen them on PBS. They have a wonderful sound.

Nothing against the Irish, but I'm not a big celtic music fan and can only take just so much.

Well, you may not like Irish & Celitc Music, Keith, but guess what?

Your VLC 8.4 Media Player made my CD/DVD drive play the dvd! :D

Thank you again! :)

(No, it still won't install Settlers 5. )

Must be a codec issue. VLC Player doesn't rely on codec files to play the media like most of the other players do. Not sure how they did that.

As for Settlers, I'll put that down to hardware incompatability, which happens and is a pain when it does. Depending on the make, model and age of the drive you may need a firmware update, if they have one for your drive.

One of my drives needed a firmware patch to be able to run the VU game "The Thing."

Don't know about movies, yet. That is the next Duffy Lab.

It should work just like a DVD player program. I've tried it on my end and it works just fine.

You can also just select one of the VOB files on the DVD and play it instead playing the entire DVD.

From a non-biased perspective (:p ) - most of what get exported abroad is not at all what most Irish would describe as traditional. Blame Riverdance!

LOL!

Got more Celtic Vocalists & Fiddle Players like Mairead who can sing & play with a breath-taking glow on their faces, Hibernian?

Thankx for Riverdance too! :D

Hibernian:
I never said anything about the "NEW" exports, so I tend to agree.

Mark:
Vocals aren't the only music. Many of the great and traditional music of Ireland was instrumental only as I'm sure you know.

The main point being we all have our likes and I personally love the OLD tunes where the ONLY instrument was a fiddle WITHOUT voices. Soft percussion and guitars in the background might be nice, but does detract from the artistry.

Sincerely,
Phil

Hopefully this is not Enya style music. I think recall an old Southpark mocked its awfulness.

Enya - and I think I can state this with a certain degree of confidence - is largely detested here. You will never her any of her records played on the airwaves or anywhere else for that matter.

Irish music abroad is generally marketed as a sort of mystical, red-haired-girl-in-the-mist, 'timeless' category. Enya is a perfect example. She used to be a part of a very successful domestic group (literally - they were all one family) but quit and went solo when she found she could make a fortune by simply singing nonsense (apparently it's her own 'private' language  ), sampling it, making whooshing noises on a synthesiser and marketing it as Celtic Mysticism. Now she's one of the most successful female performers in the world.

The fiddle, the bodhrán (pro: bow (as in bow of ship) - rawn), and a tin-whistle are essential céilí (pro: k - lee) music instruments, with perhaps a guitar but most likely some uillean (pro: ill - en) pipes (like the scottish bag pipes but played on the knee and powered by bellows). Almost all tunes are also sung, but this is by no means the rule.

Clannad?

Sorry Hibernian...tried to edit my post but it didn't work, so I deleted it. :o

I like some of Clannad's songs very much.

Yeah, Clannad were pretty good, I don't know if they're still going as a group, but my dad was a fan. (sorry Amenirdis!) Was it the Black family?

I too like the celtic fiddle and flute music that Phil is refering to, I heard a group called Lunasa on an English folk programme and liked them enough to order one of their CD's to try. Quite impressive and will probably try to get more by them.

Celtic Woman, huh? I like the voices and the lyrics....thats kinda the music i do listen to from time to time. And when voices are so sexy or hot as "Marky" (i am so sorry... again) Mark Duffy said, than i cannot ignore such artists.

Ok I finally went and checked out this group and

OMG I love them, all of them. You know what I love the best, they are real people with real voices and real talent. I sure hope that they stick out the dry times once they run out of classics. Then we will see "something wonderful".

Just love and no sex.

I appreciate beauty and that's it.

I want big kissable lips and good symmetry and good aura.
