Yes, that is a a representation of the Velarium. Again, we don't know, yet.

Thanks for your reply but it seems cannot close and fixed because I can see on another screenshot on C4 screenshot site.
Thanks:)

You have to remember that all the screenshots are taken from a work in-progress and things may change from what you see now. Just look at the diffence in the detail of the buildings between the screenshots from August and April.

I cant see any difference between the screenshot taken from August and April and the only difference I can see easily is the screenshot quality which is the older have better quality and the newer is a bit blur.
Thanks:)

Look at the buildings. They are completely different in terms of details, reflections, colors, etc. The newer ones are much more detailed.

So the newer added some other effects??I hope they can give us a perfect and the most detailed game to us because their previous caesar games are the best graphic on that time they released. It uses me so long to wait until it released so I think they are fully tested the game and dont have many bugs when they release it.
Thanks:)

what keith said is definitely true and also one has to take into account the effects of the sun and weather in both sets of the shots. you may also have noticed clouds, birds, reflections, and evening in the new shots.
i'm can't wait to see nightfall and its associated texture (i.e. astronomical to say :D ).

I'm sure they'll give as bug free game as possible. That's what the beta test will help iron out. The better the beta the better the end results. I helped beta CotN and it's a lot of work to spot, document, and track down a bug, file a report and then go back later after the next patch to see if its been fixed. That's for one bug, multiply work that a one or two dozen or more.

I thought that the previous also got weather and birds....So maybe they can add stars at night and maybe add more natural thing like volcano, small animals...This will be great but need to worry about the game speed because it maybe lag for me although I have 1024mb of RAM.(I dont think it is enough and maybe during the beta test they have 2gb or more RAM).
Thanks:)

There will be birds. You can see them in one screenshot. I'm sure there will be stars. We had them in CotN. A volcano has been suggested in the Natural Disaster thread in the Suggestion board. I also suggested an earthquake, but not like the one in Caesar III, where the ground cracks, but rather one that gives the city a good shaking and causes damage to the buildings.
My system only has 1GB of RAM too, that shouldn't be a restricting factor. Something that will be is the speed of your CPU and the capabilities of your graphics card.

Do you think a 3.2Ghz Pentium 4 processor is enough for this game??I hope the earthquake dont leave a unbuildable area in the game and just makes the buildings collapse is better.Sometimes,it makes my "good" place to build farms become unbuildable and waste my place. So maybe it just temporary and after a while the land can build something again.
Thanks:)

I'm running a P4 3.0Ghz machine myself and don't anticipate any problems being able to run Caesar IV. I am running a highend video card though, a ATI Radeon 9800 Pro, which is two years old now, but still very capable of running everything out there at max settings.

I think it should be no problem running on my pc and I hope Caesar 4 can have a auto open and close option for the velarium because all the things can only be talk as HOPE and we still dont have a clear answer for C4.
Thanks:)

It's just my guess, but since the sun will move across the sky in a realistic fashion for the appropriate location the city is located in, I think that the Velarium will open and close in relationship to the position of the sun in the sky.

But do you noticed the picture in C4 homepage screenshot. That is night and the velarium still there. It is not raining. If it is raining, they will have lights come out from the colosseum because the people cant watch a show in the dark!So I hope it can open and close to make more realistic.
Thanks for your reply even it is so late now:)

Well, like I said, it was just a guess. And remember these screenshots are coming from a version of the game that is not complete yet.

So everything we are talking now is just HOPE or GUESS and we cant get a real answer. If there is a auto open and close vealrium option in the game, then i hope that we can see it open and close by people so it makes the game NICE:D
Thanks:)

Yes, for the most part there is just so much we do no know, as have said before.
With the movement of the sun across the sky having the velarium open and close in response to it would be a nice touch. It would also be a nice to see some details about the whole system involved with the velarium on the tops of buildings that had them. There were miles of rope, blocks and tackle, and dozens of sailors manning the whole system. Now if they could add that sort of detail to the game that would be wonderful.
In addition, this is another guess and suggestion, that those sailors could be another type of "job" for citizens to fill in the city above and beyond the usual jobs of merchant, industrial, and farm worker.

And not only colosseum but all the important building like senate, hippodrome...can have some more detailed graphic effect and we can see all the person that it hired doing their work.If it look like this, then it is wonderful because almost all the city building game are the same objective that is make your city or empire good and dont have problem and only these graphic effects can attract more people to buy their products. If not, they are just owning the samething especially the same game title but go to 2, 3, 4...So this can make more people like the game like CivCity:Rome has its own game style like can zoom into the interior of an building...So all of these are HOPE and GUESS.

I think there will be plenty for us to look at in wonder in Caesar IV. I, myself, don't particularly care if the buildings have a interior or not. It might be nice but it's one of those features that you may use a few times and then ignore later on. I'd rather have them spend time working on things that really matter to the game than interiors to buildings.

Because having a interior zoom can let us understand our city more like we can zoom in the hospital to see how many patients inside, zoom in to bath to know how many citizens are rich, zoom in to their house to see how is the family(happy, rich, poor, someone sick...)etc.So if it has this feature maybe we can know our citizens' life better than just a report that full of words.
Thanks:)
Keith

They could just tell you how many people are sick and in the hospital without the need of all the extra expense and programming time it takes to put interiors into the buildings.
It's a fun idea, but it's really not worth the effort in my opinion.

If I dont have any mistake, they don't tell you how many people are sick in C3 and the only thing that tells you when you click on it is the number of employees that the building needs and the simple discription of the building.
Keith

I was speaking about Caesar IV.
If they were considering any interiors of buildings they should probably only do them for the major public buildings like the Senate, Colosseum, Hippodrome, the large baths such as the ones Caracalla constructed.
I don't think it would be worth the time and expense to program interiors for every building.

I don't think it would be worth the time and expense to program interiors for every building.
not to mention the interiors of the more commonly built structures (houses, shops, markets, farms, etc.). think of all the lagging

You are right. If we go in the senate maybe we can see the advisors and when we press it it tells us some simple result about that.I think the greatest interior view is the colosseum and the hippodrome when they fight or race.Especially whne they are racing or fighting the sound comes out from the spectators and their racing sound or fighting sound which makes you just like inside the colosseum or hippodrome now.

I've found a old picture of C4 (taken on August) and the colosseum don't have velarium(which is something upside of it like an umbrella) so the new picture of C4 maybe is a velarium and the only question is will it have the option to auto open and close??This can only know when the game release or maybe someone knows it tell us??
Thanks:)

They probably won't slip too many of the fine details like that, because they probably want to leave it for us to find out when we have the game all go "Wow! That's kind of neat!"

Yea but CivCity:Rome has the feature to zoom into all the buildings so just this 2 games are my aim and the other 2 roman games (Heart of Empire Rome and The Glory of Roman Empire) are not so popular because C4 and CivCity:Rome have its own special and style of playing and the graphic are very nice.Heart of Empire Rome is the worst CB game I had never seen before because no roads inside.Although the graphic is also good, but the road is the main of CB game.So if C4 can zoom inside to every building then it will has more customers as it also has the main feature of CivCity:Rome and maybe it also has the more detailed graphic.
Thanks:)
