View Full Version : MANY, many questions to ask...
*sigh* I'm having too many problems.
Part of it might be that the CD itself is borrowed from the library, maybe?Bottom is scratched a little, but otherwise fine.
One problem is scenarios and campaigns send the computer crashing into powersave mode. I have to ctr+alt+del to return to desktop. I tried different screen resolutions, restarting, uninstall/install again. I read a thread about this same problem someone was having b4, but evry1 was talking about things i have no idea about at the age of 12...patches? heheh...
These days, the tutorials are starting up off-centered on the monitor, but only when i start playing, if i manage to get back to the main screen, everything is aligned.
I'm more than halfway done with the pyramid in the last tutorial, its fairly close to the 'normal' limestone quarry, if the laborers are to take a path going down a hill(they do) I have 15 laborer huts, all are occupied, none have any problems with bread or worshipping, etc.2 overseers, both are instructed to oversee the pyramids construction, which they do, but now, the construction has just stopped. I have trade relations with Tura again and have more than 80 fine limestone blocks, more than enough to finish the pyramid. the laborers have quarried the other limestone before, and i have about 20 ready to haul, but day and night only 3 laborers are trying to move it to the site. The other 12 are  CONSTANTLY:mad: going to the dock or whatever and traveling to get more fine limestone! plus, it seems about 5 of them are stuck in the other dock across the Nile.(a glitch, maybe?) They keep complaining about the weight of the limestone(which, if u zoom in close enough, INSIDE the building the laborers are walking in place, and from outside you can see 1/2 the limestone is sticking out of the building. i could finish construction with the un-stuck ones, but they are just going back and forth from the cargo drop-off to the dock and traveling. AHHHHHHHHH!!!!!

Sounds like your game needs to be patched.
Also, some other notes about laborers: it takes 4 laborers to move 1 block of limestone, thus 15 for pyramid building and quarrying is not enough. If you had laborers set to quarry limestone, they will not switch jobs (even if you switch overseers) until they move all quarried limestone out of the quarry pit.

Hello Elmo! :)
Sounds like you need to patch the game, as Azeem said. You also have to actually buy the game & then I can properly welcome you to our family!
Try placing a Cargo Drop Off Point (DOP) for Tura on the Quarry side of the Nile & build your pyramid there also. Place one, right-click & dedicate it to Tura.
The game, even patched, does not handle moving limestone across the Nile very well. Barges (Ships) only carry one block at a time, deliver & overpower your Laborers who haul it from there, cuz it takes four of them to haul to the pyramid. Causes a few problems with lost blocks & grounded Barges. If your game is patched, then the situation will right itself, eventually. Best to stay away from transporting Limestone across the Nile totally. The problem is that your Laborers do a great job of hauling to the Barge Landing, but they have to wait for a Barge to show up. Things pile up & problems occur. LOTS of limestone piles up. Basalt & Granite are only used in ones, limestone in bunches.
If your game is unpatched, it will totally malfunction here. It IS funny to watch, though. :D
Patching will not eliminate the problems you already have, but I guarantee you will not get any new ones like what you have seen. You will get some abandoned quarried items (the old ones), especially if you have others. If not, your Laborers will use them also, but last.
If you continue with your game, you can still place a new DOP on the correct side of the Nile. Laborers will use the new closer one.
PS ~ There are TWO types of Laborers in COTN. One lives in huts & have people in their People Windows when you click on their huts. These are the Laborers you build.
The other kind are Magic Barge Landing (Dock or Pier) Employess that say "Laborer" on them when you click on them, but have empty People Windows. These are NOT Laborers. They come from Barge Landings & return there. They do not eat, need wares nor services. Their only job is to haul from Imported Cargo Trader Ships (different from Local Barges [ships] made by your Shipwright outta imported Cedar wood) at a Barge Landing to a DOP. This is all they do. Your Laborers haul from DOP or Quarry to your Construction site. However, your Laborers DO haul across the Nile, using a Local Barge (ship) & this is where you get stuck people & abandoned quarry items (usually limestone, but also sometimes with basalt & granite) with an unpatched game. :)
I cannot help you with your computer problems, cuz I am not a techie. Sorry. Perhaps a thread in the Technical section?
ok then...how do i install the patch/?
i tried the game again just now to check what i wrote, not all is correct...sorry!
*the tutorial started up again off the screen...really annoying btw.
*I have 18 laborer huts(all are occupied)
*The pyramid is on the quarry side of the nile, behind the palace.
*So is a drop off point, i think i put 4. One one the large island which has some cedar +12 fine limestone, another one on the mainland with random stuff. One is near the barge landing (the one with 92 fine limestone.) This one was already dedcated only to Tura. So is the other one right next to the pyramid(empty, since obviouslythe crazy laborers use the one near the barge landing.)
*There are 12 limestone blocks that were in the process of being quarried and 22 on sledges that are currently waiting to be hauled. Its annoying that there are 3 laborers waiting there for the 4th man day & night. GOSH.
*uhh...let me see.. OH and then if i have 18 laborers
-3 at quarry
-8 stuck at barge landing with the stuck limestone(walking in place)
______
7? where are those? when i click a laborers house and select man of the house, theyre either stuck, at the quarry, or it goes to the barge landing and says they're 'traveling'...i thought they had to stay here?
i cant take a screenshot picture b/c of the off center screen, i tried clicking a black area on the bottom of the screen to see what would happen, and it crashed, again. If i could attach a picture file, it'd help a lot.
P.S. i just dropped the cd...Idon't think that helped.

Adjust your monitor. You should have an auto-center. Happens to me when I change from one game to a different game also. The game itself is centered, just not the initial screens.
*I have 18 laborer huts(all are occupied)
Patched game & you should be OK. Unpatched game & you need more. Sorry. Some get stuck in unpatched games. ;)
*The pyramid is on the quarry side of the nile, behind the palace.
Excellent!
*So is a drop off point, i think i put 4. One one the large island which has some cedar +12 fine limestone, another one on the mainland with random stuff.
Delete all on the wrong side of the Nile. Place a generic one & also a separate Tura one on the quarry side. If you already have one of each there, then go with those.
One is near the barge landing (the one with 92 fine limestone.) This one was already dedcated only to Tura. So is the other one right next to the pyramid(empty, since obviouslythe crazy laborers use the one near the barge landing.)
You cannot have two DOPs dedicated to the same site. The first will automatically change to generic when you dedicate the second one.
*There are 12 limestone blocks that were in the process of being quarried and 22 on sledges that are currently waiting to be hauled. Its annoying that there are 3 laborers waiting there for the 4th man day & night. GOSH.
This is where more Laborers will help. Sometimes you have only 3 on one block & three on another. They wait for #4 who never comes & get mad. Then you get Class Dissatisfaction & you can't get new ones until they move out & are replaced by children from other residences, villagers or sometimes vagrants.
*uhh...let me see.. OH and then if i have 18 laborers
-3 at quarry

You MUST Patch your game, Elmo! Or start the Tutorial over again & stay on the correct side of the Nile. :)
I could ask you to use Manage Attachments to upload your game save, but it will play differently on my Patched Game. You can do it anyway if you want me to look at it.

You may have to restart the tutorials or whatever mission you are playing. The patch won't fix saved games that have problems already in them.

Yes, it will, Keith. You just won't get any new problems. That limestone on a sled at the bottom of the Nile will just be ignored. ;)

I have never had an off-screen image of my map, Elmo. Even when I played unpatched. This problem is with your computer or the install.
P.S. i just dropped the cd...Idon't think that helped.
Sounds like someone else did too! Or a few before you. ;)
The game works well, Elmo, if your computer can handle it. :)
Adjust your monitor. You should have an auto-center. Happens to me when I change from one game to a different game also. The game itself is centered, just not the initial screens.
But if I adjust the monitor to fit the tutorial, wouldn't the desktop and Menus be distorted now?
I'll try to remove the DOP on the island.
and maybe i can attach the last time the game was autosaved... though i think one overseer was at the statues at the time, i must have clicked something wrong.
I don't think I said it right... lol i'll try again
when i start the tutorial, it's like i grabbed whats showing on the monitor and slid it to the bottom-right corner of the computer, so imagine theres about 1 1/2" of black space on the left side and on the top, so i can't see the 'eye of horus' to go to the tutorial menu, right? I know there's a screenshot button down there somewhere, and since the mouse hand goes down to where you cant see it on the moniter, i just clicked and obviously i didn't get it right, and i went to powersave mode...
Confused yet? lol...
My computer has had some problems with viruses before, it's a Windows XP..uhh hewlett packard? ithink? if that makes a difference. It has more than enough GB space, and i've had heavier games run on this before. I uninstalled some to see if it would help, i still have my 2 citybuilder games and one about suicidal worms. yuppers.:D
Sounds like someone else did too! Or a few before you. ;)
Yeah, it was in the childrens section with a lot of dried up liquid on the bottom O_O

Do that!

This is new information. I now understand your problem much better. ;)
Overseers go to Construction sites when set on construct. If you have a lot of different construction going on at the same time, you definitely need more Laborers. Your Overseer will go to almost each one in turn & activate them. You don't have enough Laborers to
1) Clear out your Limestone quarry
2) Haul limestone from DOP
3) Quarry Basalt and/or haul from Basalt Quarry to Temples nor Statue bases.
You asked waaaay too much from a few Laborers at the same time. ;)
Patch your game NOW! (Please) :)
PS ~ I have seen many new players with Tutorial #3 & an unpatched game, Elmo. They did exactly what you did. You are not alone. :)
PRINT SCREEN & also F9 does a screenshot.

I'm beginning to not take you seriously, Elmo.
Well, currently loading the patch, i noticed some of the things that happened in the game were actually not normal, like the reed boats not disappearing. Thanks for your help, i might come back later to post screenshots woohoo! (if it works :/ )

Excellent, Elmo! I would love to also see your problem save before the patch. :)
(EVIL grin :D )
