I have so much gold by mid game, if my combat followers die I can usually buy a higher level on easily.

Actually, using the tag line "Loot, level and Build," with Loot being first, the point of the game is to Loot and to Level, and Build a town to allow you to do that. The window you get when you open a new game explains that is your mission. Clear this wilderness. To do that you need the food and re...

I'm going to ramble a bit so forgive me. I'm also looking at this from the perspective of a normal difficulty, long game. There are some elements of chaos right at the start of the game. But most of them are player controlled. 1. All resources/no resources. This is arguably the most chaotic element ...

TBH, I expected Gamespy to give it a lower score. Which means I think they can see the goodness inherent in the game. And Hinterland, like M&B, has the potential to grow, unlike AAA titles where once the bugs are fixed and the funding runs out, they move on to a new game or work on an expansion. So ...

A controlled injection of Chaos

And I do mean controlled. Game is fun, I think most of us agree on that. But aside from the items you do or don't find, game play is fairly predictable. Raiders attack on schedule, and they follow the same route every time. Food and gold production, aside from prayers to the God of chance and the in...

Making decisions about how you are going to utilize the items you have is also a part of, or perhaps the only, real part of town management. Do you use your magic oats now and run the risk of depleting it, or do you save it for when you really need food production to spike? I'll admit, even this con...

Consistency I guess. I noticed that my offensive spell casters leveled slower than fighters because they aren't getting hit as often. I think you healer is just bound to level slower as the game is in it's current form. I'd like to find a way to help them survive though. It's frustrating when the AI...

They are probably selling menial things like nails, leather straps, finished wood, knicknacks and brickebracks, stew pots and horseshoes, and the like. But the first thing I thought when I started playing was "the money scale is out of whack." They could add a ton of variance to the money scale if t...

Log into your account, go to your user CP, go to edit avatar. There is no goblin chemist image on the site right now. If you can somehow find a way to save the image of the goblin chemist to your HD, you can upload it from there. Huh, scratch that. They disallowed file uploads. :( They have to add t...

As a review site you have the responsibility to be comprehensive. You need to talk about everything. Concept, game play, execution, preformance, graphics....It comes down to the kind of weight you put on each aspect of a game. Major review sites tend to start their evaluations at graphics. Your game...

Yeouch. I'm not sure I could dial it in without pause, when you decide to upgrade 20 villagers' equipment, you need time to think.

I think attack and defense values are fractional. All the extra swords and shields are representing the fractional increase of your attack and defense skills. So the guy with two swords or shields of a given color has 2.0, while the guy with one color shield or sword, and a whole row of secondary co...

Just smack the space bar any time you open your follower window. I like that it doesn't automatically pause. Sometimes, I want to browse while letting time progress so people can continue to heal while I think about what I'm doing next or while I'm browsing.

I think it takes more time to go "How many gray shields do I have? How many yellow ones? I think it's 9 but I can't tell. And what does the grey shield under the yellow shield mean?" than it does to go look and see numbers. You're crunching either way, with the icons you end up guesstimating. Which ...

Agreed. I don't necessarily need to see hard numbers on everything, but a list of the choices I made along the way would be nice.

And the attack/defense icons have really got to go. They are pretty much illegible, and the color scheme makes very little intuitive sense.

I've had the exact same experience as you. On my long game, I've only got 3/4 of my town filled out and my FPS is hurting bad. I have a feeling that if the reviewed Hinterland in it's current form they would really slam it. I have to agree. But the major gaming media has inflated expectations, mostly about how a game looks and it's performance. I've seen the media rave about games that are equally as simple at their core a...

I don't think every single game made needs MP. MP has become an obligatory feature to gamers. The minute you make a game MP you change it's dynamic. I like that there are still games being made with the sole focus being the single player experience. So you would suggest purchasing in order to promot...
