Banished - amazing effort by single developer

I think Medieval Mayor just got some "major" competition: http://www.shiningrocksoftware.com/ http://i.imgur.com/gBdwt28.jpg http://i.imgur.com/ZIOIpLs.jpg http://i.imgur.com/JKdzNUn.jpg (Now if only TM would consider switching to hexagons , they could stand out a bit more... ;) )

It's all falling apart though: ⋅  Insider says servers aren't doing any calculations and aren't necessary. ⋅  Users find proof that every single citizen isn't simulated as claimed. ⋅ [url=http://answers.ea.com/t5/Miscellaneous-Issues/Traffic-quot-AI-quot-This-is-why-ser...

Yeah, that is a pretty cool idea. As I recall, Jeff's first game, Robert E. Lee: Civil War General used a hex grid. I remember (as Impressions' art director at the time), trying to explain the way the tile set to him... But there are two problems with this for Medieval Mayor: 1) we are too far alon...

Settlers: Rise of an Empire looks to best all of TM's efforts so far...

Just look at this: http://www.gametrailers.com/game/3343.html Two words: No grid! (...and 3D graphics which actually looks nice instead of the sadly crappy TM efforts, and actual city building gameplay instead of "people building" gameplay that only creates an unfocused and schizophrenic game since ...

Hah, those screenshots in the first post have full anti-aliasing, anisotropic filtering and bump mapping. How many systems are able to do that, unless they run at 640x480 or something?

And Sim City 4 still looks better.

Good points and great questions. However, there are very few programs I would place in this category and Pirates! is definately not one of them. I would include Flight Simulator and the Army's first person shooter, but that's about it. Oh, no, please no! Flight Simulator is a huge CHEAT! I'd rather...

This has got to be the best bloody post in this forum! However, look at Silent Hunter 4 and IL-2 Sturmovik, two of the last really hardcode simulators which are of commercial grade quality and also former top-sellers. Not so anymore. Then look at what has happened to former simulations, like Sid Mei...

How can you possibly call C4 gridless? The game Medieval Lords is gridless, and so far, the only 3D game I know which does this in a strategic, building game environment. If there are others, please let me know! Also, I didn't edit to correct some 2D to 3D error. If you look closely, I edited to try...

3D adds a greater possibility for immersion. The ability to follow a simulated character through a 3D environment brings that environment to life as the character interacts with it. In turn, the player develops a greater sense for 'what it's like' to be there, and decides to put more effort into im...

The point I was trying to make, was that if you compare the SC4 screenshot thread to... well, ANY 3D game out there or in development, 3D doesn't stand a chance in the OOOOOOOH pretty department. And that includes Crysis, imo. You can't reproduce a Rembrandt in 3D. (But ******... 3D always gets my b...

Are there any GAMEPLAY benefits with 3D?

There isn't a gaming PC out today, nor will there probably be one next year, which will be able to reproduce the SC4 level of detail in 3D (the year after that, however, maybe... but it will cost you an arm and a leg). I guess you could try to fake it, like in SC4, by loading a completely different ...

I don't think Mr. Wright had any say in this matter. He's busy in his own little worlds in Spore. EA has seen the cash cow that The Sims is and is milking it to the fullest by dumbing down Sim City in order to try to make it appeal to the masses. I guess they could be right though, because back in t...

Nice, it's ok to talk about pirating as long as it's not C4 or CotN? :p

For your information, my retail copy was delivered on DVD, not CD.

Imo, I also think that the city building games are easy when it comes to happiness... Anno is a lot easier, though, there really isn't anything to it in that game. The part which makes anno hard is to be able to afford the happiness... The economy. That's where the difficulty is and that's why the g...

Anno is not bad, but I don't like at all the complete lack of need for workers and it becomes confusing hen your cities get big, you have to be too much careful not to overproduce otherwise you begin very fast to lose money and it is difficult to keep track. Patrican 3 was a much better game. Well,...

Hello! When the demo came out, I made this thread with some basic info: http://www.tiltedmill.com/forums/showthread.php?t=11180 You wanted to know if Anno was better, as good or worse than Caesar IV. Well, I'd like to put it this way: Caesar IV has a better game concept than Anno, but Anno executes ...

Ah, so Settlers 6 and the Settlers 2 remake are two different games? Cool, didn't know that. I just visited the English Anno 1701 forums and the die hard fans over there are complaining that they dumbed the game down when it comes to setting prices for various goods (it's computer controlled now, ap...

I've never been able to get very far in the Anno game. Just never did grab me. Cannot explain why. Perhaps when someone says why they did not like it I will be able to say, "yeah me too." :o I never got into the Anno series either. For me, it's because I feel lost and limited in the beginning. I me...
