City walls were a major undertaking. I'm not 100% sure, but I believe this is also the time that the dutch started draining their wetlands and building dikes, maybe that could be one? Even short of cathedrals, regular churches were pretty big projects that reflected the best building techniques avai...

Install Problem: Error 1311

The external hard drive I had CotN on broke, so I needed to reinstall it, but every time I try I get this error message:

Error 1311, source file not found E:\Data1.cab

It seems to me that a modded Children of the Nile could fit the MesoAmerican niche quite nicely. Has anyone attempted it, or is CotN not mod-friendly in that way?

Running game from external hard drive

In an effort to clean out my perpetually full laptop hard drive, I bought a 15 terrabyte Seagate USB hard drive. I figured I can put all my games on it, and leave the laptop space for things that are essential to run and that I use for school. That way I can leave the HD at home and not be tempted t...

I've tried C:\ATI\Support\9_3_vista32_win7_32_dd\Packages\Drivers C:\ATI\Support\9_3_vista32_win7_32_dd\Packages\Drivers\Display Doesn't make any difference. The Mobility modder says the file has already been modified, and the install always says ATI Display Driver: Final Status: Fail The log is att...

No change. I deleted everything I'd tried to install before, uninstalled all ATI things and restarted. Then I downloaded just the driver, let it unpack and canceled the install once it did. I then checked the add/remove programs, no ATI thing there to uninstall. Then I ran the mobility modder on the...

Did that, and still got the same result, it says display driver install failed. As far as I can tell I followed the directions  And what is the latest DirectX? I keep seeing stuff about a direct X 10, but when I try to update my directx 9 it keeps telling me I have the latest one. This who...

having the same problem with the demo. I downloaded and ran the ATI mod tool, and followed the instructions, but it's not made any difference. I don't think I downloaded the right driver to replace mine with, as it still shows the mobility one in my DXdiag.

As far as terrain being fixed, you seem to be correct. It's bizarre to me that there's no map editing or landscaping tools

Here's my Orwellian Dystopia, which I'm rather proud of, except for the huge amount of repetition of statues I needed to get the authority.

Haha! Haven't seen that one yet.

It does continue the SimCity tradition of silly things in the news crawler. Cesaer demands wine!

Well I broke my own word and bought it. Blame my poor impulse control and the two Best Buys on my way from college to my parents house. I don't want my money back or anything though. The game seems simplistic at first, and there are some real annoyances (why is there no terraforming or landscaping t...

'Solar' buildings

What is the practical difference between the "solar" apartment-type buildings and the regular ones? Do they use less power, or maybe lower CO2.
