Re: I'm lost figuring this out

That's actually a relatively painless way to find out the software isn't doing what it should. Methinks a bug report is in your future. :)

Re: I'm lost figuring this out

The only other difference I see there is the file path.

I don't remember if anyone ever tried changing these. I think we did, but I don't recall success, which would mean we never figured it out.

Re: created mines vs placed mines

There are huge problems when creating objects using triggers. I believe the issue is they are not spawned with a legitimate ID, and the game doesn't know how to handle them properly. I've never been able to work out how to handle them in that way, so I had to come up with clever ways. If you want a ...

Re: custom world map

I explained it that way because of an earlier explanation for how to make maps, and I found that procedure very effective.

Maybe it's too fancy. :)

Re: campaigns ?????????????

If my memory is right, scenarios aren't contained in a campaign.ssa file. That file is only a pointer to the individual scenarios, gating them so the appropriate one is listed at the appropriate time. You must have the scenarios as well. There's a section about campaigns in the editor's manual. I th...

That might be true, but I'm not positive about that. It somewhat rings a bell.

Re: reserving food

Food is currency as well as sustenance. I don't remember the mechanics, but as you grow and provide new services, everyone starts grabbing more food to purchase everything. If you're having trouble meeting the city's food needs plus the needs of trade, I'd look at my noble to farmer ratio. When I st...

Heh, nice. Finding limitations in 2018. Sounds like you're really pushing the envelope.

Re: now THIS is a bug

I only briefly played with controlling creatures and I found them as tricky as you say.

I remember Karter had a scenario where Pharaoh walks around his child at the beginning, giving some exposition to set the stage for the scenario. That would most likely help you.

Re: building check

LOL, yes, this is all true.

There are some serious limitation to this editor, mostly because it was built for a much more simple game. Some things were added, but our imaginations quickly got ahead of what was possible. 14 years later, the gaming community has even more ideas. :)

Re: building check

I believe you can define a zone or area on the map, and you can periodically run an event that destroys and structure in the area.

If so, you could create an event that wreaks havoc on the city, perhaps an earthquake or something, that only destroys structures in that area.

Yes, Karter is one of the Masters. :D

A lot of that editor's manual came from work that he did.

Re: library vs lighthouse

Structures on the river are very, very tricky.

And generally speaking, so are all trade structures. They are notoriously difficult and introduce a lot of wonky bugs.

Stone carvers and overseers are objects that SEEM buggy, but almost invariably have a problem due to player error.

Re: library vs lighthouse

Tilted Mill used the 3D engine from Stainless Steel's Empire Earth to create this game. That's what gives us the camera control, zoom, etc. It was a revolutionary thing at the time. However, this meant we also got the Empire Earth editor, which was a very simple editor. Empire Earth doesn't have the...

Re: library vs lighthouse

This might be a stupid question, but please act as though I'm new to the game. :D

I don't remember there ever being a library in game. There's a school, but I don't remember a library.

What structure do you mean?

Re: Killing Pharaoh

Cool to see you working things out. The editor has a lot of juice, but it takes some time to warm up to. Something I'll mention: heavengames has only recently become the main site for storage, due to repeated attacks and other problems at this site over the years. Uploads were disabled and that unfo...

Re: Killing Pharaoh

I was just going through an archive drive looking for some physical fitness information I'd squirreled away, and I came across a Tilted Mill folder. Opening it I found the original source and PDF of my editor's manual. On further digging I found all my custom scenarios, including the Sand Wars trilo...
