quote

After you have the basic guts of the program, 70% of the effort stilll remains to make it user friendly and (possibly idiot-proof). When the complexity doubles, the number of bugs quadruples. COTNs editor had many awful parts of its interface (tedious/clumsy) and had serious data integrity problems...

I agee with you Kuplo

I agree with you Kuplo. When you look at the maps in the game they're nothing short of being really good to say the least. Then when you look at the editor you really have to wonder if they put these maps together on that peice of junk or not. From all that I have read on the editor the darn thing i...

Clay coloured Maps

Thanks again Kuplo, I tried it and it works. By the way I didn't mispell color, colour is the way they spell it in English or British. I thought some off color or mispelling would go along with the mixed up map. When it comes to the clay color, perhaps they think we are going to sculpt our maps in c...

Our Editor Guide

Hey Kuplo, when I switched the 0 to 5 in the default texture, this failed to bring up the save menu. I tried loading the map by going to the upper left corner to exit and then saved the map. I then came back and went to the Terrain mode and saved the map textures. Only when I reloaded the map as you...

Editor Support

I've been away for the past few days playing "Glory of the Roman Empire," which has no editor, much to my dismay but, I needed a break from beating my brains out in the C4 editor and this was most relaxing since the game is deamanding at times but, not nearly so much so as C4. The only problem was I...

My scenero turned brown

I tried the large map and it looked really great in the editor mode as far as the colors went and all that. I placed a few roads, put the river back on the map and put down some timber(for cutting,) fertile fields, regular trees and bushes and so on and the thing never crashed once and looked great....

Map Editor

I could not agree with you more. This is one of the most impossible, un-user friendly editors I have ever encountered and, one of the most error prone bug filled editors I have ever seen. Without an instruction manual or any way of knowing how to use this thing other than trial and error methods, it...

Good going Kuplo the illustrations of the maps look really great but, it has been awhile since I did any copying or moving program files to the main program and I've forgoten where these go. Could you tell me what folder in Caesar IV these should be copied to?

Thanks for the info

Hey man, thanks for the info. As someone used to say on an ancient tv program, I didn't know that. LOL. With this one I know very little of anything about it. I do know that when I try to save my texture set I get an error. The editor will say, "Error Loading Texture Files," I must be doing somethin...

Map Editor Errors

I get the same thing most of the time even though I haven't gotten to the stage that you have. I'm still trying to get a flat map and figure out how to get water and fertile fields on the thing. This version of Caesar certainly hasn't lived up to the older version in the Editor or much of anything e...

Caesar III still one of my favorites

I'm not just playing Caesar III and waiting for Caesar IV to make its' appearence so I can stop playing the older game. I have both Caesar III and Caesar IV and I still play Caesar III and will continue to do so. This was, still is, one of my all time favorite games and I really like it. Everything ...

How to start a new map

Good luck to you. I've been in the Scenario editor and I have not been able to figure out how to create a new map. I did a scenario using the default map which is a med apron map and seems to be the only one I can get. I tried some of the others like Asia map etc., but couldn't get these to appear. ...

Game freezing up

I did and everything seems to be back to normal now. And to think of how much one is encouraged to always maintain the most updated drivers for their video cards, etc., Guess that goes to show that not everything which is old, (including myself,) is usually no good anymore.

Caesar IV Editor

There is an editor included in the full version of Caesar IV but, don't expect it to be a user friendly, easy to use editor such as the one found in Caesar III. So far I have been unable to make any of my own maps and have only been able to edit existing maps. This is quite aggrevating in some ways,...

Game is freezing up in various stages

I purchased Caesar IV two days ago and, after reloading windows finally got it to load and execute. Everything seemed to be going fine except for the Map Editor which I'm having a hard time learning how to use. Then I downloaded the newest video drivers available for my ATI 128MB Radeon card and a s...

Any Editor Help Around?

One of my favorite past times with games such as Caesar IV is to create my own scenarios with the Map Editor or, edit some of the scenarios already posted with the Scenario Editor. Unfortunately the Caesar IV editor isn't as user friendly as that of Caesar III and is much harder to use. I never can ...

Can't download Maps

I know this is probably the wrong place to post this but, since it concerns scenarios in general I feel it should be aired here. I like to download maps or scenarios as they are most commonly referred to. There is some good scenarios here which I would like to download. Unfortunately I have been una...
