I like Gog.

I have the old Sierra/Impressions games on disc (which still work after all these years), but I had to get them again via Gog!

Happy New Year!

Great fun! Made it to the fall of Boudicca, with a cheer of relief. Now on to part 2 where at last I can place Villas without causing a riot :D

Thanks for this map.

Have to give another plug for all the authors listed so far! Other fantasy recommendations: The Name of the Wind by Patrick Rothfuss. First in a new series. A fat book, very gripping and sad in places. Stephen Donaldson (Chronicles of Thomas Covenant). Steven Erikson (Malazan Empire) - a long series...

Yippee! Many thanks for this tutorial. Have learnt a lot and am no longer scared of military action. Eager to play the military campaign now and see how far I can go before slipping back into bad old habits of bribing! Loved that final battle. Watched first to see where they were coming from then sp...

Such pretty cities and victory screens! Thought I'd post a different picture! This looked such a nice map, I couldn't resist having a go. Thought it would be relatively easy. Got fired really early on my first attempt. This is my second try. I made it up to request 9 this time and was able to meet a...

Phil, looks like your advice has done the trick. I've replayed one of the previous tester maps and have progressed a lot further in it. No crash, freeze or glitch of any kind! Well, there was one glitch - Rome's army :D So, things are looking promising. Aramann, Hieronymus, I will redownload the tut...

Did everything suggested, went back to the attached game and it froze after 15 minutes! The attachment is from a user-created scenario - the military tutorial. It was the first game to give me problems and the only one I kept. The others were testers to log when a crash/freeze occurred, so I never s...

I still prefer 2d to 3d. Never had anything 3d until CotN and that took a bit of getting used to. Getting long in the tooth now - getting harder to keep up with changing technology! Anyhow, I still dip into the old games. Sometimes, all it takes is a tv programme or book to switch me from one game t...

I'm also experiencing random crashing and freezing. No error messages. This seems to happen on large maps when the city's built up and things are generally busy. I've adjusted many of the game's settings, without much luck. I read Phil's first post here with some interest, particularly his reference...

First games were the Infocom text adventures. Hollywood Hijinx was my favourite - it was hilarious. All that was way back on an Amstrad 6128. I no longer have the originals, but a couple of years ago a Masterworks CD was available containing many of the Infocom games. It was really good to get those...

Aarr. I just want a piece of the victory screen. Aarr. But - things are starting to get buggy. Screen freezes, crashing out to the desktop and strange things with my forts. According to the military advisor some forts have 0 soldiers but the fort information reveals 20/20 very confident. No soldiers...

I'm really enjoying this tutorial, despite my lack of battle skills. At the moment that consists of breaking out in a sweat and waggling the sword around in a panicky fashion. Doesn't help that half my army are engaging in battle while the other half are still marching sedately towards the invasion ...

I am a grateful new student, needing all the help I can get! I've just started the tutorial and true to form, got plastered at the first invasion. I didn't have prefects set up in time at the invasion site. Also, I should have paid more attention to the "buildings on fire" messages because the prefe...
