It shouldn't be too awfully hard to make housing procedurally so that can fit into odd shapes. If you can do it with a garden, why not with a building? Just adjust the corner vertices as necessary, and you might not even have to adjust the texturing.

Keith is correct in that Romans liked to build in straight lines. C3 was very nice with the trees. I loved how in the map editor the trees go bigger and older looking depending on the density of the surrounding forest.

I think the way that roads are handled is going to have a huge impact on the atmosphere of this game. I must say that the 45 degree angle roads in the screenshots look really, *really* bad. Rather than conceptualizing roads as a series of lines, perhaps it would be better to think of them as 'pixels...
