I know this is a really long time replying . . .

. . . but I actually had it on disk. Was looking through my games and found it.

Too bad all this happened, though. Sierra was a great company, they will be missed.

*looks online - ah yeah, need to find the manual, that has the key. Not inside the box, grr. May be totally lost :( . And oh, look - GlassBox is Tilted Mill's walker system, on steroids ;) . Moving resources individually, who would've guessed? Oh, wait, I was doing that in Caesar III :) . That's one...

But aren't cities weird societies? If you look at real life, with large scale cities such as San Diego, San Francisco, Paris, Amsterdam, etc., and villages all across the world, you'll find all are of themselves highly distinctive cultures that are not quite like each other. What I love about Sim C...

Perhaps, but I'd still like to see it a bit more like the classical SimCity games rather than Societies. I liked zoning and being able to manage utilities. Interestingly, this is a Maxis project again, rather than Tilted Mill. Which means we may see zoning again, I hope? While I love Tilted Mill's f...

Wha??

Okay, so I decided to try to reinstall Caesar 4 after a HDD failure and replacement . . . I looked in Steam, where I'm sure I bought it. Nothing. Then I looked in Impulse / GameStop - nothing. I know I bought it digital, and those are the only two platforms I use. Was it pulled? Also, I was surfing ...

Besides they already sell digital download versions of the game through Trymedia and Direct2Drive. Never heard of Trymedia, and considering it looks like it's the same company that makes SafeDisc, a draconian DRM platform, I'd never touch it. I've heard of Direct2Drive, but never used it. I hate to...

My issue is 'do I have to authenticate just to play' and I've had about three people say yes and three more say no. -Valve's own games do require they be registered with Steam. Which can be a bit annoying for their single player games, since it makes even the single player games require an internet...

Would it be possible to buy the publishing rights from Sierra?

You do need to have a constant internet connection with Steam. False. Steam has an offline mode, and it has much improved since its first release. AFAIK, there is no time limit on staying offline. Once the games are installed and all are at 100%, you can tell Steam to go into offline mode. You can ...

Steam!

Now that Tilted Mill has joined Steam, I think they should put Ceasar IV on it :) . And allow me to register my existing copy of the game on Steam so I can run it without the CD. This whole thing about having to go and dig for your CD every time you want to play is rather annoying, and I'm glad that...

Any PC gamers NOT bored this season? Well, I've never played a complete game of Caesar IV or Civilization 4 yet, and I want to re-play a lot of games with the settings cranked up on my new GeForce 9600 :) . If all else fails, there's always MMORPGs that will take as much time as you want them to ta...

Just got a new GeForce 9600 GT, and it works great for Caesar IV :) . I'm able to push the settings to the maximum, and it still works great. Here's a screenshot: http://img100.imageshack.us/img100/3831/caesariv9600kw1.th.jpg . . . and before anybody asks, the "11:07 PM" is xfire's time overlay. The...

I'm not familiar with ATI cards, but it does sound like an older AGP card. Turn down the graphics levels (especially shadows) and you should do fine. Problem is, no card can really be measured by memory alone - other factors, such as DirectX support, the overall architecture of the card, the detail ...

The version you noted I KNOW is for Vista which I do not follow nor use as I'm now and will continue to be a XP user only and have no intention of "upgrading" to that, IMNSHO, piece of junk operating system as it is still so full of bugs it is ridiculous. . . . This thread is solely intended for XP...

They're up to 169.25 now.

Honestly, though, I haven't had any of the problems mentioned with the previous drivers. Perhaps it's because I'm running a 6800, though :/. I hope that when I upgrade to an 8 series card it won't break.

Example case. Say your name is Johnny. You're in a department store. Suddenly, some guy with a twelve gauge shotgun bursts in looking really angry. He asks for any and all people named Johnny. There are no random factors at the moment, such as people with concealed weapons. The random factor in thi...

Actually, Vista should already come with DirectX 10, which is backwards compatible with DirectX 9 - the DirectX 9 install is unnecessary. I think it's more video drivers than DirectX - I canceled the DirectX 9 install, and C4 works fine. Make sure the drivers from nVidia are up to date - they've bee...

Well, here are some major things I'd like to see in a Caesar 5: -Overhauled graphics system. Right now, it seems pretty sluggish. Perhaps it should be rewritten with speed and modularity in mind. The core graphics should be minimalistic and fast, but easily extended to add all of the stuff people ex...

Thanks for the tip!

Despite all discussion, I still think that the system isn't right. I just don't like having a countdown timer sitting there. If I want to spend 100 hours on a single level, that's my business. I don't want to be rushed by fighting a clock that can only be reset so many times.

Well, when you have 10-20 timber camps, that's 100-200 trees easily :D . In any case, I finally won that scenario :) .
