DX 11 is missing some dll files needed to run the game. MS removed those files starting with DX 10 so DX 9 is needed for the game. You might try installing a newer version of DX 9. Since the game wasn't written for Vista or Win 7 getting it to run on either of them is hit and miss.

Suspect that the second dvd drive on your DX is a virtual drive if it is then that's your problem. The copy protection of the game does not play with "virtual drives". You need to uninstall that drive.

My guess would be that the old disk had "blown up" which caused the system to freeze. Hopefully the disk you gave your niece will be in better shape and you'll soon be back playing C3 :D

Did you install DX 9c? The files contained in DX 9c are required since they are missing from DX 10 and Dx 11.

Install DX 9 very likely that is the cause of your problem. Since DX 10 and DX 11 are missing files.

You will need o downlaod DX 9c from Microsoft on a computer that has internet access then put the files on a thumb drive to transfer the files. Then you need to run the setup file from he thumb drive to install DX 9c.

If your missing file is the one listed in Keith's post above then his post has a link to Microsoft website. To check your DX go to start, run, type in DX diag, click on ok. That will bring up the report for DX then you can look at the contents under each tab and run the tests. It's just common sense...

You have Virtual ISO dvd rom that is a virtual drive which doesn't play nice with the copy protection. Make sure you have the latest version of DX 9.0c. Check your game disk for fingerprints or scratches that can cause sudden onset of problems. Hope this helps.

Posting in two old threads is not a good idea rather a new thread for your problem would be best. Since in this thread you posted your DX diag you can see your video card driver is from 2006 which is too old as I told you in the other thread.

Video driver is too old and very likely the DX version is old too.
