A solution is already in effect: those who don't want PvP can buy limestone off the market and avoid the monument mess entirely. You can't have your cake and eat it too. :p

But the question becomes how easy should it be to be robbed of your spinnaz. Right now its way, way too easy; I've demonstrated pretty clearly that an attacker with a relatively small budget can minmax his army to knock down any monument he wants to, which translates to 5000+ limestone worth of dama...

Someone else said they had problems too the other day. Maybe whoever is in charge of accepting invites is on vacation right now.

Problem with something like this is there's no way to really enforce it. I could just as easily form a League of Calamitous Intent made up of raiders, powergamers and other ne'er-do-wells. We supply all our goods internally, maybe even harass people selling on the open market to shut down trade on k...

Well something else I would add is that after being taken, monuments would get a PvP lockout for some time, maybe 12 hours, where it cant be attacked by other players. This would both cut down on chain-raiding as they'd be effectively limited to around 2 caps a day, and would give a successful attac...

Not really a pessimist, just a student of history. When a culture shuns technology in favor of 'the quiet life', it pretty much always ends in tears as soon as they come in contact with someone who's down with winning by any means necessary. And there's never any shortage of them.

I totally agree on the monuments being broken, I just did these numbers as a counterpoint to some people who have suggested that monument-holding--and thus PvP--is necessary to play the game. The trick to monument-as-limestone is to treat the soldiers as an investment, or a cost of doing business--e...

Nah, more likely that someone will hoard all the technology and put all the energy-less farmer people under their jackboot. The children would be too busy slaving away in the steel mills to produce great monuments in honor of the Lord Protector. :p

Out of curiosity Lendi, did you actually read what Tunk posted or are we in auto ragepost mode today? Nowhere has he, I, or any other proponent of the PvP system said anything about forcing PvP on anyone. Nobody is forced to own a monument site, nor will it significantly impact one's ability to upgr...

Well as I alluded to in that thread, and made pretty clear ingame, the main problem with military is combat balance. Monuments themselves are broken too, but only as a consequence of how easy and cheap it is to take a monument compared to defending it. A few things that might help: -Cap combat odds ...

Monument as Limestone mine: WAD

Currently there are three aspects of the monument-combat system: combat balance, limestone mining, and the monument itself. One is utterly broken, one is broken as a consequence of the other one, and one is working correctly. Here I will be discussing the one that works, monument as a limestone mine...

But Reed has made it abundantly clear that monuments are intended to be PvP sites. Whether military is useful for other stuff is another issue entirely. The point is that, like many MMOs, its entirely possible to stay out of the fray but some of the top-tier resources are only in PvP areas to encour...

Ohs look whos back, the friendly neighborhood troll. Protip: Anyone who doesnt want a monument can buy limestone off the market or via direct trade. Unless youre doing some hardcore multi you might have noticed that you have to do this for most other resources too. :) edit: That was aimed at lynnk, ...

Simple solution to the problems of being attacked - just don't bother with monuments. Yeah pretty much. Obviously the system as it is is unbalanced, but going through this thread an awful lot of the posts seem to be along the lines of 'I want to have my pyramid-cake and eat it too' which is just as...

Okay folks, I'm through. Its safe to go back in the water...for now. Its late here so I wont be putting up all my logs, formulas, numbers etc. until probably after Christmas but heres a few to whet your appetite: Total troops produced: 4,321 (1827 lost to a bug) Largest single attack wave: 18...

This seems fair, also I'd like it if plots didnt revert to 'Monument' when they get captured but kept the original name. Losing the site is bad enough, but the other guy auto-vandalizing the name just adds insult to injury. :(

Havent run out of bread yet :p Anyway I budgeted 48 hour uptime but cut it to 36 so it wouldnt overlap with Christmas, so I'll be decommissioning the army sometime this afternoon/evening. The scary thing is if I wanted to, I could pull one of these stunts about every 10 days without significantly af...

Decent army won't help. Even an emergency army...if I hadnt lost half my raidforce to a bug I was going to march on 4S, and something tells me even with 27h notice you couldnt muster anything to ward off 3200 soldiers. :p Fact is the system is broken and the attacker has total control over the situa...
