Both -- if you've been playing the earlier patch or the original game without any difficulties, you'll notice no difference.

Will this help with the CTD's people have been having in tutorials, campaigns? This will solve the crashes people experienced beginning tutorials and campaigns, which were the most common ones, yes. There are other crashes we've had reports of (including yours, thank you for them) that we are eithe...

Lyle ended up fixing this by searching for the Children of the Nile executable (CotN.exe) on his hard drive, and inputting that path into the installer.

New Children of the Nile patch (1.3.0.1) now available

Edit: Known issue: Some localized versions of this patch (those in German, Spanish, or French) may not start. New patches are available on the Immortal Cities website that update the CD version of the game to 1.3.0.1. They will install over any earlier version from the same locale. Here's a list of ...

Not even with the lowest settings etc? Some laptops actually let you permanently dedicate x megs of RAM, so I wonder if a workaround would be to give the integrated gfx 128 megs? It's possible that there are workarounds that will allow the game to function to a greater or lesser degree on some onbo...

Hi, John,

I'm sorry, but your graphics card is below the minimum system requirements for the game -- SCS doesn't support onboard chipsets like the Radeon Xpress 200.

It's not just the amount of RAM in the machine that limits things like this -- there's an upper limit on how much memory a single application can use (called the virtual address space). For applications that you want to be able to run on 32-bit machines, that limit is 2 GB. (As an aside, this is why...

JLS, you're probably thinking of a problem with SecuROM where it could cause right-clicking to stop working in Windows. That's fixed in this upcoming patch.

Place the scenario file you downloaded in My Documents/Tilted Mill/Children of the Nile/Scenarios. Next time you load a scenario (from the main menu: click Play, then click Play a Scenario), it will be on the list of choices. That's assuming you have the full version of the game; if you're running t...

The mighty morphing brickmakers survived this batch of fixes, yes. The changelist at the top is complete, I think - we probably haven't fixed it yet if it isn't on there.

I see you made a backup copy of the RandomMap.xml, which is a great idea. But is it in the same directory as it was originally? If so, you'll need to move it out of the XMLDb directory. Otherwise both XML files will be read, and the one that's read last (if they're in the same folder, the one that c...

Hi, Caledorn,

Thanks for the save -- I'm seeing the crash here, too. I haven't narrowed down what's causing it, yet, but it seems to go away when I lower the graphics settings. If that works for you, it might enable you to continue playing through this city while we work on a fix.

Thanks for the report and the dxdiag, Captain. Do the problems you're experiencing reproduce from saved games? That is, if you save the game and crash soon afterwards, do you crash in the same spot when loading the save and trying again? If so, could you upload the save for me?

After installation, there should be a binkw32.dll file located in the same directory as the Children of the Nile executable (usually "C:\Program Files\Tilted Mill\Children of the Nile" or "C:\Program Files\SEGA\Immortal Cities") -- do you see one there?

Thanks. I'm having trouble reproducing this with a similar setup (an 8600 GT instead of an 8500). The hard lock, if your mouse freezes, suggests there's something interacting badly with the video card / drivers, though it's odd that this only happens playing through the campaign. Sorry to double-che...

An update to the Steam version of Children of the Nile, taking it to 1.3.1.2, is now available. You'll get the update automatically the next time you start the game through the Steam client. Here's a list of the improvements we made since 1.3.1.0: ⋅ Lots of fixes for French, German, Italia...

Hi Will: Sorry for a third separate post - but (now that I have deleted my extraneous "research" SC:S xml folder) there is no reference at all to the RandomMap.xml file on my C-drive. :( This would probably explain why my alterations to the value appearing in the RandomMap.xml situated within the E...
