Default How to embed images in your posts

How to embed images in your posts

You have an image you want to embed in your post, but not as an attachment. For example a signature image or animated smiley.

First, the image must already be loaded on a web site, for example your personal free space site or a game site somewhere.

Second, put the image URL between [img][/img] tags in the body of your message.

Example:

First, I have a Diana avatar hosted here: http://www.fengshuichat.com/sitearm/images/diana_10.jpg

Second, I code it in the body of my message like this: [img]http://www.fengshuichat.com/sitearm/images/diana_10.jpg[/img]

And the result is:
http://www.fengshuichat.com/sitearm/images/diana_10.jpg

A simpler way from Keith

On the menu above where you type your message you just click on that yellow square icon the one with the black "mountains" on it. When you hover over it is says "insert image." Then just enter the URL of the place you stored the image you want displayed. This will display the image and in the message body unlike attachments.

Caveats

The image displays only so long as the original web link is valid. Otherwise the image will show X.

Default How to take, edit, and post screenshots

Four Steps...

1. Compose a picture in your game*

. Run the game until the time of day you want (evening, midday, sunrise, moonrise etc.)
. Put the game on pause <p>
. Turn the interface view OFF
. Scroll and zoom around until you like the view (consider all points of view... god's eye in the sky, up close and personal, in the city, outside the city, people and animals, landscape and sky, humor, scenic, things you like, bugs, etc.)

2. Take the screenshot

Remember to UNSELECT all objects (no green or blue halos or conversation bubbles) UNLESS you want them highlighted in the shot

If you want EVERYTHING included, including the interface, then...
. Leave the interface ON
. Press <f9>

If you want ONLY THE PICTURE, not even the little miniinterface icon, then...
. Press <shift><f9>

If you have an item selected, and you don't want the glowline in the shot (occurs when press <shift>), and it's ok to have the little miniinterface icon, then...
. Turn the interface OFF
. Press <f9>

3. Edit the screenshot (optional)

. Use Windows Explorer to locate your screenshots in this directory:
...C:\Program Files\Tilted Mill\Children of the Nile\snapshots
. Select View Thumbnails to see the images
. Double-click the images to expand and view them as needed
. Pick the images you like best
. Sort them in the order you want to show them, and renumber and rename them with descriptive titles (leave the extension as .jpg tho')
. If you have an image-editing program, add text, diagrams, cartoon bubbles etc. Or stick your face on the pharaoh statue... whatever

4. Post the screenshot

On CotN or Fansite forums you need to be registered (free) with user id and password
Screenshots are located in: C:\Program Files\Tilted Mill\Children of the Nile\snapshots

If you want to post your shots in a Tilted Mill Official Forum, then...
. Open a new post
. Type your message
. Click on "Manage Attachments" button
. Use Browse to locate and select your snapshots
. Upload them in order you want them to be seen
. Submit the post

If you want to post your shots in a CotN UserSet, then...
. Go to the CotN main web site and click on UserSets
. Log in (you have to log in again the first time, even if you're already logged into the Forum)
. You will see the links "[create]" after you are logged in
. Chose either StorySets create or SnapSets create
. Name your overall set (set names are easy to edit later)
. Upload the first picture
. Add the remaining pictures in the order you want them to be viewed (picture order is hard to edit later)
. Add captions... they add a lot and build your writing and creative skills! (captions are easy to edit later)

Not a trick but wisdom,

Do not over post... you probably know. but if you come here daily and post a COUPLE not loads but not limiting. your rank on the fourm ladder will go up, no need to troll or over argue either, [that G W Bush fourm that Ascura started lol]
anyways your rank will go up if you're patient.

Edit, C4 suggestions are ok what I meant to say is don't go overboard, 20 new posts in five minutes kind of thing, sure a bunch is good, but 20 in 5 minutes is overboard, suggest away. What I mean by argueing is non stopping degradement of why you are right and NOBODY else is correct... that is what i meant, keep it in friendly terms here this is a nice communtiy in comparison to War craft or sumtin like that sombody said, so nobody cares for excessive argueing, I hope were all cleared up.

*wonders if sitearm has mastered the edit button in effort to avoid double, triple, and quadruple posts*

Note to new posters. Two features will be your best friend. The search feature and the edit button. If you have a problem. Search first, then if necessary, post a thread or reply in someone else's. If you feel the need to answer several people at one time, you do not have to make multiple back to back posts. All you need to do is copy the relevant text and paste in your reply, if you notice there is a little speech bubble looking icon...click it, it will turn your highlighted text into a

like so. So you can address many points in one post without seeming like a spammer.

Default Just to clarify how to use diffrent smilies....

some people may not know how to use other smillies.
you just go to a site like these
http://www.bestsmileys.com/pageindex.htm (this one is the best and the one I used in the example)
http://www.clicksmilies.com/index.html

and when you want to convey something that the smilies here just cannot do you can add some of ya own....
by copy and pasting the the text given into your message.

it will look like this.....

hello all
i think i am going mad today [img]h ttp://bestsmileys.com/silly/13.gif[/img]
when you hit submit thought it will show the piccy instead of the text...

hello all

Default Private Messaging, Reading and Posting Messages, and You...

Experienced and fast-learning forum members use Private Messaging in addition to Reading and Posting Messages.

Private Messaging is good for one-on-one feedback or discussion, including arranging to get together separately by email or chat to work on a project. Private Messaging is not subject to search engine crawlers.

Reading and Posting Messages is subject to public search engine crawlers. What you post will be available for years. Use "Edit" or "Edit - Delete Message" if this concerns you regarding any of your messages. (sample search: "tilted mill forums [your user name here]". Click on "[More results from www.tiltedmills.com]" or "[More results from www.immortalcities.com]" links)
