Thumbs up Burdigala the hard way

Ok I know you can beat this scenario pretty easily by just evolving your housing, but what fun is that! I wanted to see if I could beat this the hard way and build a city that would last a while. So I took what I learned in the economic scenarios and applied it here to mixed results, intentionally keeping my favor low until I was fully set up and successfully beating back the enemy.

Since there is almost no room on this map you have to be very careful what and where you build. I opted to build a bridge right away and put almost all my industry on the other side of the river. It's really easy to go into debt because of this so money was really tight for a while.

First thing I did was set up 6 timber camps to export timber, and 2 furniture factories for exporting furniture. Once that was humming I had enough to buy 2 weapons/armor factories and started importing wool and iron, opening up the recruitment post and mess hall when these were full. After a full two years of living on the financial edge I had a full cohort ready to go in the NE corner of the map. Then the invasions start ... and the fun begins!

I wont bore you with the rest, but this map rules! By far the best challenge yet for me

By the way I have pet names for some of these structures, do you guys like the 'farm pod'?.

This map IS fun doing it the more difficult way. I found that there is just enough space between the upper edge of the woods and the map boundary to place a double row of factories surrounded by roads and a string of lumber camps. Save the cost of a bridge.

One way to ease the financial strain is to do as you did with the timber and furniture, and then start armor and weapons production - only keep going until you have 4 each. That way you can sell some at the same time you're building up the military. Guns and butter!
