How many Forts can we build?
R U Ready? Here it comes! Damn near as many as you can support, it looks like! I'm finally at Military in Djedu. I built a LOT. There is good newz & bad newz. Recruits look like they fill up Forts by taking turns. I had one of each with fully equipped multiple Recruitment Posts & Mess Halls. So, it looks like if you want a full Fort, cuz you can only train a full Cohort, you need to do it in steps or you will have to wait for all of them to get to 19/20 before you get one full to train. This part is just an initial test & not the reason for this thread. I started to see how many of each I could place. I gave up after 40+ of each. Don't even ask how much Denarii it cost me to run this Lab! ![]() |

Tell me about it, Vic! Oh, forgot one thing ~ My favorite line in the game so far! Said by a new Recruit: "Pain is just weakness leaving the body!" You have to actually hear it for the FULL effect !!! (Still cracks me up!) ![]() |

First Impressions Fort Lab Report ~ Djedu ~ No Enemies
Well, I have heard so many stories, I didn't know what to expect. First image is the Playfield. This was just one test. The training needs to be repeated & I will. Mess Hall uses all three food types, but Forts have no food mouse-over. Don't know if it needs one, but it was weird not seeing one. Perhaps Fort food is special food mix of all three. ![]() You can Hotkey Cohorts. CTRL-# to set. # to click on. Double click # GoTo. This is in addition to the usual controls. You cannot send Cohorts by right-clicking on the Minimap. You have to actually take the camera there & then click to move large distances. With the hotkey use, this is not a problem. Or scroll. I had no problem getting any of the 4 Cohort types to march. They crossed bridges with no problem. They didn't stall nor get stuck anywhere. Training was something else. It appears that they train for about three months & go home. Note: Months were counted by the Cohort display; I was ignoring the Interface months. The training number increases while they are in the Drill Yard. Then they go back to train for three more months. I got some weird numbers. I understand that training is counted in weeks, but displayed in months. 0-3 = Untrained (Should be 0-5?) 4-7 = Trained (s/b 6-11?) 9-33 = Expert (s/b 12+?) Light Infrantry trained best (33 months), followed closely by Archer Auxilia (29 months). These guys just need weapons. Never had a training problem with them. Training worked on auto-pilot for these guys. Calvary Auxilia was terrible. Kept getting stuck (Image #4 ~ Don't look stuck, but they are. They train their three months & never go home. NEVER.) in the Drill Yard (I had 4 Drill Yards). I had to Mothball the Fort & play with the buttons to get them home. Heavy Infrantry was better, but I had some problems with these guys also. I would get them home & send back to train. Same thing. These guys need weapons & armor. I only got them to 16 months & it was tough doing it. I even tried sending them out into the field to try to reset triggers. I don't think it was the playfield layout, but one never knows. ![]() The problem I noticed is that I couldn't figure out how much each was trained, unless they were out of the fort. |

GREAT LAB Thanks for the info. I noticed the same thing reguarding how the forts are filled seems the most efficent way is to let it fill up before building another. havent tried multiple recruitment posts thou. didnt even notice if it could be done

Well, needless to say, the Training part of my last Lab left a very bitter taste in my mouth. So I went back to the Lab. I reloaded the save where I left off & continued to make sure that what I had observed the first time still occurred. Yup. Exact same thing. Calvary stuck in the Drill Yard & Heavy Infrantry was having problem leaving their fort to train. They had no problem deploying & returning to Fort; it was just the Training command.
So I deleted all four forts & just rebuilt the two big ones that were having problems. There is a staging area by the front door. Yes, there is a front door. You get it by clicking & dragging just like any other building. I left more space this time & they trained like clockwork. No problems. Perfect! Image shows each Cohort in their respective staging areas. Give 'em some room! ![]() |

It would be cool if we could build catapults like Caesars armies have, though ive noticed they only target infrastructure not actuall troops.

To Mark
I would be interested to see how armies work in battle in your your lab. You could raise your salary and get Caesar mad so that He comes with his army |
