Default just, don't call this game: SimCity...

Societies may be a good game...

I think, from what i saw and read, there's some interesting ideas...

the problem is, you guys kill what makes the difference between a city builder game and a Sim City game...

In fact, this seems to be a good City builder... but it is shure not a Sim City...

No zones like we used to know... this meen no rendomly construction... one thing essenciel to a SimCity game...

no power central... no coal central... (this one was in sc2000!)

no water pipes... uh? what? hey!! that IS part of SimCity...

and of corse... no Llamas... it's a shame...

realism... well... since the very begening, this was the goal of the game... made a realistic citys...

With all the fansites on the net about SimCity (I am moderator of the french SimCity sites: ToutSimcity http://www.toutsimcity.com/index.php i don't understand how you endup with this game...

some of you ideas would be good if just added to a «better SimCity 4» ... with all the aspect à SimCity player want PLUS the things you want... (or it is EA that want it? i don't know...)

please, take off the «SimCity» in your game's name... even if this nean that SimCity 4 was the last one...

because your game is NOT a Sim City...

It's still Sim city, the reasons you've named are the reasons why it has Societies subtitle instead of number 5

Then it should be called 'Sim Societies'...not 'SimCity Societies'...I stated my reasons in the "You Killed SimCity" thread.

rekondite i think you are right.

TM tells the press that i wont be a City simulation game, so i think that this Statement is enough, to say that i shouldn't be called Sim City.

Sim Societies would be better

indeed it is almost false advertising....the fact that nothing actually happens unless you plop it/make it happen means it is not a simulation in the slightest.... its a puzzler in which the aims are to reach one of many social endpoints by building things in the correct order to prevent you running out of money. by social endpoints i mean when a city of a particular society reaches a point where repetition becomes unbearable. with these six energies.... it only recalculates personal happiness etc.... every time a player plops, as far as i can tell this is a very very simple game mechanic glossed with full 3D, is this by anychance a modified version of the Caesar engine...

sims are about singular family clusters. simcity takes the entire city as a collective simulation. SCS may be like the sims, i'm not sure, it would be however on a larger city wide scale.

From what I've seen this game is more focused on managing sims. In a citywide scale this game doesn't fit well because it isn't a city simulation in the first place.

Yes. SCS reminds me of Sim Town rather than Sim City.

But this is not SimCity 5. If they keep the name, that would mean that there are total 5 games with SimCity in it, but IT CAN'T BE SimCity 5.

what is in a name?

A rose by any other name would smell just as sweet

that goes vise versa too I guess (horse poop will smell like horse poop even if it is called fresh field daisy honey drops and other flowery goodness) o_0

It looks like it too.

Or to put it less eloquently, as professional American Football coaches are fond of saying, "It is what it is."

Or, as Popeye is fond of saying, "I 'yam what I 'yam."

Don't understand all the fuss about a name. This game was going to be developed regardless of what pattern of ink they scrawl on the outside of the box. The bits inside won't change one way or the other.

The name is the image of a game. If this game flops badly, then everybody will think about this game when someone mentions SimCity, instead of thinking about the good SimCity games that was before this. And then there will be a smaller chance of seeing a real sequel to SimCity 4
If this game was called SimSocieties (or whatever), then it wont hurt the SimCity image if it fails

Yup, no arguing that.

But this I will argue... When you compare the SimCity fan base to the Sims fan base, the latter completely dwarfs the former. For that reason, IMO, there is not a huge risk here. The far bigger risk would be to the Sims name and image.

Besides, with TM on the job, how could it possibly flop!?

I don't really care about the name of the game... and i don't care if this game failed or not...

but what i do care, is to know if this game is really the sequel to sc4... or it is independant to the series...

does EA put this game out now... and that's it!

or, they put out this game... and goin' on with a futur sc5 in 2008? ...

MMMm... SimCity 4 was using 2.5D whereas SimCity Societies is using 3D....

Of course SCS would win...
