Post If you have no trees post here, could someone from TM please read?

Hi everyone,

First of all I want to keep this thread orderly with no negative comments, only post if you have something constructive (as in pictures, links or appropriate suggestions)

I have had this game for a while now, loads of fun. Right now my game is running amazingly, I have over 15k population in some cities with no crashes at all.

My only problem right now is with trees, bushes, rocks, grass, and foilage in general.

It appears that there is a bug of some sort that disallows foilage from appearing in the playable (buildable) area of the map. The out of bounds area (placemat?) has beautiful looking trees and the like whilst the playable is barren despite me putting vegitation to its highest. Please note that I can set all graphics on HIGH yet still nothing appears, I have reinstalled many times to no avail. The trees on structures/decorations show up fine as illustrated in some of the screenshots.

Pictures (the orange lines mark the division where you can no longer build):

I put the vegitation to full:

The out of bounds area has vegitation and rocks:

A slightly bigger and better view:

Hey look im placing trees, costs $252, sounds reasonable:

Stupid (insert your least favourite landscaping contractor here)
he took my money and left the country! What the?!!?!

For some strange reason the decorations and structures have trees:

I bought small palm trees ($3 each), guess the same contractor showed
up...:

I have the same problem whenever I place trees. I never paid attention to the vegetation though so I'll have to check that out to see what happens when it's set to high. Funny, I thought I was the only one with this problem, hope TM addresses this in the next patch.

Hey Everybody,

The reason you aren't seeing ambients such as trees and rocks is that SimCity Societies detects how much RAM your machine has, and if your rig is packing less than 600MB, the game modifies some settings in order to let you run the game with acceptable performance.

One of the things this does is disable ambients in the buildable map area. The game does not take your graphics hardware into account when disabling ambients since performance in this case depends more on how much RAM you have rather than your video card's capability.

Default Thanks!

Great!, you have no idea how hard it is to find out that information, you guys should make a sticky about it. Thankfully before I knew this I had 2 more GB of RAM ordered.

soon I will have 2.5gb

Well that's good news!! At least updating your system with more memory isn't that hard to do!! And if more memory can give us every little detail in the game, then I'm all for it!!! Perhaps this is the big hang up on other people's systems? (the lack of sufficient memory). Although, thinking it over a bit, if we needed 600+ MB of RAM, to have everything in the game show up, why didn't they just put that as a min. requirement to run the game, instead of the 512 MB that they have listed? Just wondering...

Off to Fry's to go 1/2 --> 2gigs. I was already planning to do this, but the date just got moved waaaaaaay up!

PS ~ I don't get them on the apron, either.

<Wishes self luck>

I thought that was the case with my comptuer. I'm not going to be seeing any trees in the game anytime soon as my laptop is just at 512 MB of RAM.

Tinkerbell, remember that there is a setting in your 'settings' for the apron as well (although you probably know this, if so, sorry, just want to make sure!!!)

later,
pat!

Default Another interesting update on the tree issue...

Just got back from the EA forum. Found another post on there last night from Jan 4th in which someone was also having the tree issue. So I posted on there and told them about the 600MB or more of RAM. This morning, someone posted under me and said that they have more then 600MB of RAM and despite that still cannot see trees, streetlights or any other details (claims they put their settings at max and still cannot see anything). He thinks that nothing you do can help the problem and it's TM's fault, and that them telling us to use 600MB or more of RAM is just their way of saying they have no idea what the issue is. I'm still going to give the more memory thing a chance before I make any final judgement on the issue. Perhaps that person doesn't have a good graphics card, or is doing something else wrong. I don't know. I hope the lack of sufficient memory is really the issue here. Because this is it for me. After I get the new memory put in, that's all I'm doing for this computer. And if that doesn't fix it, I'm just going to keep pressing on and play the game and just get used to not having streetlights or trees

Default Good News!!

Just finished putting in some additional memory into my PC, and....

SUCESSS!!!!!!!

Trees, streetlights, trees, streetlights!!!!!!!!!!!!

The lack of enough memory. For me, the solution really was that simple. My PC now has over 1 GB, and all the little details I was missing before in SCS now work!! Hopefully for those of you planning on upgrading your memory you end up with similar results!! Good luck!!

We get our dinosaurs to do that.

My laptop barely chugs along on SCS.
