this is a gameplay-oriented map of a whole bunch o' little islands, all of which can be connected by road.
although this height map is 1024 x 1024, made for use with a map size of 512, it really does provide a manageable playing surface at its current size, so scaling-down shouldn't be necessary. *IMPORTANT* for best results: -set Water slider to full -set Smooth slider to full hope you enjoy! [if you're new to this whole thing, just download the attachment, and pop it into the Electronic Arts\SimCity™ Societies\Height Maps folder.] a preview: ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() |

I loaded this and would love to be able to play it but it slows down my computer to a crawl even on the lowest settings. Any suggestions? Does it have to be set on a certain terrain. I have it on temperate and the water and scrolling set on max.

the height map is 1024 x 1024, which means that you should be playing with a map size of 512, because height maps need to be double the size of the playable map, squared.
by default, SCS sets your map size at 256, so if you haven't adjusted this, you might be utilizing a height map that is WAY too big.. in order to change your default map size, you will need to edit your randommap.xml file. to edit the randommap.xml file, just open it in notepad, change the value, and save it. the other thing you can do is resize the heightmap to 512 x 512 in order to play it with a map size of 256, but i don't know how well it will convert to a smaller map.. if you shrink the heightmap, it's possible that: A) you won't have much land to build on B) any amount of smoothing might start connecting the islands |
