Default The Gray Ghost

The name of this game brings back some memories.

I grew up in the fifties and sixties when westerns were the mainstay of television programming. I remember watching one about Mosby and his raiders called "The Gray Ghost" each week.

Originally on:CBS
Status:Ended
Premiered:October 15, 1957
Last Aired:August 29, 1958
Show Categories:Action/Adventure

Mosby is a Major in the Rebel army during the civil war. He runs daredevil covert missions that sometimes helped people on both sides of the fighting.

The show was cancelled by the network and sponsor due to is content, which based its scripts on factual information. The show was written by historian Virgil Carrington Jones.

There was even a board game based on Mosby's raiders.

I found a site that has the show on 2 DVD volumes. I might have to pickup some copies.

Seems there was also a Disney movie in 1969, Mosby's Marauders, featuring a very young Kurt Russell. Stumbled across this at Amazon while looking to see if your TV series was there:

If I only still had a VHS player.

Default Those are a Hoot!

As opposed to wOOt!
(somthing being 'a hoot', an expression from the 50's/60's for those of you unfamiliar with the term.)

I can't say they bring back memories for me, but that cheesy smile on "Mosby" probably was enough to get the sixties counter-culture revolution going.

In 1985 Victory Games, a sub company of Avalon hill, published a boardgame too: Mosby´s Raiders, which is still one of my favourite solitaire board strategy games.

More info here http://www.boardgamegeek.com/game/1669

So I hope for a real fine game to match it, as a computer with its graphics and AI is much better suited for hidden movement and enemy auto-reaction than the good old board games.

In my job as a historical reseacher, I've researched and written listings for letters written by soldiers and civilians on the receiving end of Morgan's raids, but not Mosby.

Greatly looking forward to this game, and as an experienced beta tester that has been mentioned in game manuals, I hereby offer my services.

Me too. Well, it was only one manual, but I head the (non-alphabetical) list of testers and it was a widely admired game

C'mon, guys, don't make me beg. You don't want to see that.
