I started to try this (hardcore/raiders/no map/no resource guarantee/no requests), but it ended up being pretty unfun for me and I don't like doing chores just so I can brag later. But in case anyone else is interested, here's what I had:
- Fallen Hero (of course). You could probably do an essentially townless game with any archetype if you go through cycles of stocking up on food and then kicking out the producer. The major challenge with the solo fallen hero is their healing rate; I thought, when I started, that it would scale to their hp total. It doesn't. Once I started getting above 50 HP, this necessitated running to empty regions of the map and going afk for a bit to heal. Time ticks on when it's minimized, so go to town on your blogs/comics/email/whatever. - Lose the helmet. +3 Def starting off is nice, but it slows down your attacks a lot. - You will want Perceptive (more items). I don't know if Observant (more gold) is actually a pre-requisite or not; I didn't see Perceptive until after I'd taken it, but that could be coincidental. - My best overall performance tended to involve high Defense and a steady attack rate, rather than necessarily jacking Attack. - Hit and Run is possible, barely. You'll want to have a lot of "down" room to run, because that will give you the most screen room to keep a bead on your target. You move just a little bit faster than your enemies, so if you get them roughly to the corner of the screen, you can get off one Fast attack before they catch up. If you can snare them on the other side of a wall briefly, you should be pretty safe. - No matter what -- even if it means abandoning an attack you could win -- keep one healing potion in your inventory. If you use it as a last-ditch to run away and there's nothing easier for you to fight (you always have a slim chance no matter what your raiders are because they cap, but they tend to bunch up, which can be a problem), you might as well end game. - Raiders won't bother you. They'll go to your town and kill the visitors, mill around, and then run back and forth between the town and their base. - I never picked up Resilient, so I don't know if that speeds up your healing or not. - I overall don't recommend trying to carry this through; I only made it to level 5 before it became terminally unfun (Hardcore/Long). It's probably better (in the sense of 'possibly doable') on an Easy/Long, but I've gotten so used to Hardcore difficulty that playing lower feels disingenuous. Have fun! |

Resilient does stack, and you can get it twice.
So it would be useful when trying this tactic. One other thing. When recovering over long periods of time you could explore areas of the map for chests... |

I find the bonuses to work a bit too slowly if not an Elf, Dwarf, or Fallen Hero even if they're stacked. Recuperating just .4 HP a tick takes quite a while if you've got well over a 100 HP.

Hmmm, thanks for the confirmation.
The best stuff I've ever found is in chests in areas marked Wilderness, but it was adjacent to enemy sites, so I wasn't really sure. Well! Add that to the list, then. - Explore Wilderness areas for chests. You'll get awesomeness from them... if you find any. They're random and pretty uncommon, just like everything else! |

I did 2 "townless" games. Bows are important! I find maximizing your attack is essential because then you can kill those enemies fast.
I think it could also work with an Elf Ranger, because they use 1 food per day and also generate 1 food per day. Technically it could work with anyone if you level luckily and get that "generate 1 food per day" level thing. |
