Hi NillaWafers,

I took a look at your scenario... The river creation checked out OKAY..
What exactly were you having trouble with?

It is a very shallow river bed, and you have very little flood plain, what exactly is it that you wish to correct?
Under the Terrain> you have flood plains
farmers can only build on areas designated as flood plains.
Or did you want a deeper river bed?

I played the scenario for a little bit...
First I personally would not have set my city up in this fashion.. Example

1. I dont usually build farmhouses 3 deep and not so far away from the riverbed
2. I also noticed that some of the buildings were set so access to the front doors was a bit cumbersome.
3. I would probably add some more clay deposit sprites, just a personal preference.
4. I would also have added more rushes. They are used for mats, baskets etc.
5. When starting with a huge noble population, they require food.. There were no bakeries...
6. You had quite a few scribes, here again they were far from the riverbed. So access taxes (count fields) is not easy for them.
7. You have plenty of resources, but common wares as pottery, mats, baskets may be a problem a great distance to travel.

NOTE: on the farmhouses 3 deep.. I am not certain but, I think if they cant get out of their front doors, eventually the house will be vacated and no one can move in, because they cant gain access. I think???

Overall, its an interesting setup.. I probably would prefer not to have so many pre-established buildings. When I was playing..almost immediately some of my nobles left, because of dissatisfaction (common wares probably)

I was going to destroy all buildings except villagers huts and reset up the city. But, havent done that yet....

I am not certain what you would like to accomplish?

The problem I was having with the Nile is that I couldnt figure out how to get it deeper. I knew I had to go back and move some of the buildings and add more stuff; I havent tested it yet. I just placed the buildings as preliminary "outline" as how i want the city to look.

Thanks soooo much for looking!

ahhh, I suspected placing all the buildings was just for your own testing purposes.

To make the river deeper, do the following

First I would save it off as another name, Example Test1 or something, so if you foul it up (Like I often do) then you still have the original.

You had a good start on the river all you need to do is:

go back to elevation>

Set the following
Terrain elevation to a negative number somewhere between -2 to -8 should work
Fine elevation probably at 0 and
Slope elevation somewhere between 60 to 80

a negative number acts as if you were digging a ditch or hole
Think of it, as in actual feet
Example
terrain elevation 20 would be 20 feet high
terrain elevation 0 would be sea level
terrain elevation -10 would dig a 10 foot ditch

when carving a riverbed you start from the banks and work towards the center
its usually done in 3 passes but can be done in 2
pass one - terrain elevation -1 high flood
pass two - terrain elevation -2 flood plain
pass tthree - terrain elevation -6 deeper

When carving out the center of the river (pass three), dont go to close to the edge (pass two) , because thats where your flood plain (where the plant fields) occurs.

Then what I do is goto Terrain texture> flood plain and paint the entire river bed with that.

Since water flows into holes, that should fill it up...I hope that explains it.. Check out lesson one, it talks about it in much greater detail.

It will be interesting to see the end result
