With any luck, Microsoft will have some form of backwards compatibility in Vista so it can run games designed for XP.

The chances of that happening though are about the same as the chances of Iceland unveiling a space program.

Default Iceland has a lot of free space.

What do you mean about Iceland not having a space program? They have a lot of it and try to keep it that way. They even want more of it, remember the fishingwars against the British.

Looks like people with onboard graphics wanting to install Vista is in bad luck. MS discourages from using Vista on IGP.

Don't know why they are so hip on adding a lot of graphics eyecandy to an OS. It's not the OS I'm using a lot of time looking at but the programs I run using my OS so the first thing I allways do is turning off most of the eyecandy thereby getting a faster response from the computer. It is not because my graphicscard isn't fast enough for the eyecandy. I simply in all humbleness likes to have my computer do what I expect it to do: run the programs I can see as fast as possible instead of some eyecandy I can't see most of time anyway.

Ahhhhhhh PCD a man after my own heart Could care less about OS eye candy since I never look at it either Reminds me of a great looking sports car with a 200mph speedometer that has a lawnmower engine that can only go 5mph

Default Double the specs

Very funny indeed. Every time you learn about the min. specs the operating system of today needs, you automatically get calculating: hey so I need double that figure to get work or gameplay done. Somebody must be laughing all the way to his bank.

Default it's all about the patience

I just can't wait till I get me a second box ...

I'm a gamer .. I GOTTA game or I'll just go crazy with boredom now and then .... so because of that ... I have a windows box

the moment I get a second box I'll obviously have to setup a special station for just gaming as that's all I'll ever use windows box for ... as far as I care ... that's all anyone should use them for ...

I've met all sorts of people that are unix nazis ... but I've never met a unix freak that was a true gamer that didn't have a windows box around somewhere .... cause you seriously limit your gaming options without it ...

but until then I don't plan on updating from my old copy of 2KPro ... the newer **** is just crappy bells and whistles .. the OS takes up more space with no noticable improvement of the environment .. and MS has STILL never released a finished product ..

If TM released C4 with as many problems as the average Microsoft product they'd be ruined .. noone would ever by anything from them again ...

anyway ... thanks for letting me rant guys
and anyone that hasn't dicovered it so far ... install Firefox http://www.mozilla.org/products/firefox/ your sanity will thank you in the morning ...

I hope they still have a 'classic windows' mode. My laptops arent too slow CPU or GPU but even the 'new' windows formats waste alot of screen space.

Singing and dancing icons might impress ordinary folk, but are a complete waste of time to someone who wants to get some work done.

I've been running XP Pro for 2 years now, and I have to say it's been pretty well behaved, even throughout that entire period when my system kept locking up on me due to bad RAM forcing me to power down and restart. I felt sure I'd end up reinstalling XP Pro because the files would become corrupted sooner or later. My lockup problem is gone and I'm still running my original install of XP Pro. I kept it updated with all the SP 1 updates and installed SP 2 this past spring and all went without problems.

I won't be changing OSes until I retire this machine and get a new one with a new OS already installed. XP Pro is working fine for me.

Thumbs down Eating up resources for nonsense

As far as I know it will be possible to turn all (or at least parts) the eye-candy nonsense off to gain performance. But in my opinion they should put in an option when installing vista, whether you wanna install so much garbage in the first place or go with a simpler version. That would only be fair for those people who don't have a brand new super machine running.
Nah, I will keep XP as long as possible/sensible. I don't wanna waste so much resources for an OS. And XP usually runs fine for me.
