Sounds strange, but I know that they existed in ancient Rome. They were two or three story buildings with inner yards, complete with either housing for a very large family and its slaves, or actually something like a condominium with multiple people living there. Some times, the lower levels also had shops, I think.
Consider being able to zoom in on a piece of land and construct one of these large buildings, and choose exactly how much living space, storage space and shops it would contain. You could then later check in and see how everyone was doing inside (perhaps a transparent roof would be an idea, or like any section of a wall facing the camera disappearing when you rotate around it). I'm envisioning something like a city builder within a city builder. A whole new level. Perhaps even optional for those who doesn't want to micromanage. But at least, that would set the game apart (I'm of the view that having family names on all the people didn't do anything for the game, Tropico already did that). Does anyone know the proper name of the type of building I'm describing? |

I just thought of another thing, similar to this idea:
The romans invented the basilica (hey, I knew the name of that house) which were also very large, and used them for market places. How about having large basilikas and setting up stalls with various goods in them as well, with a similar interface used to set up various things in the 'town house'. You'd then have a makro game where you plan the entire city and routes within it, and a micro game, where you go into each town house and basilica to customize and fine tune stuff! |

i think that the closest c3 ever got to that kind of housing was the 2*2 block called the insulae. though being so large and and being able to hold so many people, one insulae was considered as the home of one "family" of 76 or something.
