Default accent for Caesar IV

hey, just a thought here but.... i remember learning in college that in Switzerland there are 4 languages spoken; french, german, italian and a romanesque language. Maybe the Tilted Mill guys can find a nice friendly eastern swiss person to do their voice over for the speaking parts for the game instead of using british or irish which at those times might be ancient Celtic.

Just a thought here

Have you heard this one?
A couple of years ago, when Microsoft was getting Windows established in Europe, they asked their translators for "Swiss" keyboard settings.
When the translators asked which language they wanted, they said: "You know, Swiss, just like they spoke in the Sound of Music?"

Thats funny

It is one thing I am certain about, and that is to not have an American accent. It just don't fit in in an ancient world, really don't know why I feel this way but i do. No offence towards Americans of course.

I am Norwegian and love the nice UK English accent i Ceasar III and would prefere that to continue in IV. Of course alternatively a kind of English-Latin combination would probably be ok too, but UK English is best!

Since the Bible was written in American, that's good enough for me!

Right, Phil?

Now for the serious part.

When C4 was first announced, we went over the possibility of some Latin phrases in the game (plus an in-game dictionary). TM could teach us some Latin...

Carpe diem!

if tm does decides to do supplementary accents, that's fine with me. but let's hope that the primary roman accent is more accurate rather than being the more traditionally accepted englishman accent.

What would the primary Roman accent be? English with Italian accent? Or better still English with Latin accent.

We've been through this sort of discussion before.

I favor a proper British english accent for the english versions of the game. Some traditions you just don't mess with. Another english accent just would not be suitable.

There is no way to properly present Roman latin in anything other than Roman latin, which most people today do not understand. Not to mention that the latin spoken today is different than the latin spoken by the Romans.

For the other language versions of Spanish, Italian, German and French there may be some preferable regional dialect. I mention those languages, because VUG/Sierra typically only releases their games in those other languages, and farms out the game later on for localization into more languages if the game proves popular.

How about an Austrian accent? Every time you click on a citizen leaving on a shopping run, you could hear them say "I'll be back."

Just kidding, of course. The British accent is mandatory, IMO. Do you think TM could afford the cast of HBO's Rome to do the voice-overs? hehe

I was playing c2 about a month ago (I wasn't using dosbox) and for some reason when I needed plebs the sound froze halfway in the middle and repeated "Plebs are!Plebs are!Plebs are!Plebs are!Plebs are!....." so I went into the forum screen and it started saying "Needed!Needed!Needed!Needed!...."
it was the most annoying thing ever, but It was so funny my entire family (who could hear it clear across the house) were all laughing and telling me to shut the hyper-active thing up after I left the forum It really messed up and rapidly said Plebs are Ebs are..Needed Ebs are Plebs Needed Needed Plebs! which was followed by a series of weird fartlike static noises
I can't stop thinking about it or how it could have happened, but it was funny as He##!

Alot of the time when you get a repeating sound it may be due to the fact that your sound card is not selected as the default playback device on your system. Many modems with WAV or VOICE functions hijack this setting.

Go to your Control Panel, click on the section for Sounds, Speech, and Audio Devices. Click on the Sounds and Audio Devices next. Then click on the Audio and Voice tabs and make sure that your sound card and not your modem is set as the default playback device. Click Apply and OK if you change anything.
