Default Do Scribes only tally fields year round?

I generally have 2-4 scribes dedicated to 'assess taxes'. If they only do that during planting season would there be any benefit to changing them to 'do all tasks' during harvest and flood?

-?

Perhaps, but I am lazy & would forget to change them back. I only have my Scribes set to Assess Taxes at all times. I dedicate the new building when I place it, before it is even built.

The other jobs are pretty useless, Jodet & you do not need a Scribe for the Exchange, a very important building for your city that you should have more than one of. The first Exchange should be smack dab in the center of your city; near Nobles, lux shops, Merchant Center & a central generic DOP.

Some players use a philosophy of setting Scribes to Do Nothing during off seasons to catch up on goods & services. I do not. If their only job is taxes, then they already are set to Do Nothing during the off seasons.

I generally don't bother to change their settings either. Probably by the time I got finished I'd have to go back and turn them back on again. the flood season doesn't last all that long.

Default Scribes during harvest

Sometimes my scribes assess taxes during harvest as well as during planting. Do they ever actually catch fields during this season that they had missed before?

No. They don't makeup for what they missed. If you have a lot of fields "not counted" at the end of the year you need more scribes counting fields. I try to place my scribe homes in dispersed areas near the flood plain so they won't all be running around the same fields together.

Scribes stop counting at about 9:30 PM Peret II. They can go to the floodplain counting after that, but it doesn't do anything.
