Why Don't TM Suspend new registrations

Postby Herodotus » Mon Sep 26, 2016 11:22 am

The forum has a serious spam problem. Every day I look it's filled with nothing but spam.
Presumably Keith gets rid of it, but it is back again the next day.

Why don't you suspend new member registration for the time being? Then no more spam hopefully.
It's tough on new members, but do you really want to be a p0rn gallery or a gaming forum?

we report them as spam and they seemingly get removed afterwards.

It may help if you message Keith as well.

They can also introduce a moderation queue, it means more work, but it makes spamming unattractive.

Actually it won't be much more work, less work in fact, considering you'd only have to approve posts by new members, and there aren't a lot of them; but it stops spam very effectively.

I asked Jeff if he might suspend all new account registrations for the foreseeable future. I noticed Jeff online briefly today after that and I think he did just that.
