"Red" Temple v. 2

Postby Keith » Wed Apr 26, 2006 6:23 am

Some of you thought the hieroglyphs looked faded against the new red background of the original "Red" Temple file.

So here's an updated v. 2 with colorized hieroglyphs. You use the file you want.

Excellent. :D

I downloaded with right click again as a test and refreshed the page after downloading. It didn't change the number of views. :o

It might have been a cached copy of the webpage that reloaded. Try holding down the CTRL key when refreshing a page to force a fresh download of that page. It shows 6 views now, it was 4 a couple of hours ago. Either it's working, or its working but not accurate.

I also uploaded my files to the CotN Heavengames site.

Good Going Keith,

I've been playing other games; Posiden, Emperor, etc. for a while. Time to go back to COTN to kill some time till Caesar IV comes out. Your red temples, shrines, etc are a really great addition.

What other colors can we have?

Ok, here's some quick conversions. Some of these will probably look better than others in the game, but at least you have some choice.

Thanks ever so much. I really like the blues and the green. Does the one download have all those colors?

Hi Keith,

Me again, how will I be able to change to the color of my choice for a building?

The original game file is named Temple1.dds. Just rename the original to something for safe keeping. Then rename one of the new ones to Temple1.dds. You have to do this before running the game.

I gave them numbers 3-9 just for identity sake. Red Temple should be stored as Temple2.dds just to have onhand.

OK, I re-name the files, then play the game. If I decide I want a different color for the next scenario I need to change the file #?

1. Rename the original game Temple1.dds file to Temple1.org (for original)

2. Before running the game. Copy all the new files into the same graphics folder as the original Temple1.dds file. Do this with the files for Red Temple and Temples 3-9.

3. Copy one of the new colorized temple files and paste it to the folder. Windows XP will add "Copy of..." infront of the filename when you do. Exmple, if you copy the Temple3.dds file and paste it to the same folder Windows names it "Copy of Temple3.dds".

4. Now just rename the "Copy of Temple3.dds" file to "Temple1.dds."

5. Start the game.

If you want to change, exit the game. Go back to the folder delete the colorized Temple1.dds file you have (not the .org file), and then just do stpes 3-5 again using the temple file you want to use.

The game won't recognize the change as long as its running. The dds files are loaded at the time the game starts up so you have to exit the game, make the change, and then restart the game.

If you haven't already noticed, there's a tiny glitch in the textures for the shrine: the upper body of the figures in the murals and the facade are shifted. This can't be fixed, however, since this existed in the unmodded file as well. It is because of the building model (there is a slight protrusion in the 3d model that causes this). It's not very noticeable unless you zoom in at the street level, though. ;)

True, and even then it took me a second to figure out what you meant. ;)

Keith - Awesome job, sir. I used the red and it looked fantastic while I was putting up my Cult Temple to Osiris.

Unfortunately, with the COTN Alexandria the Temple mod doesn't quite work the same way. I installed my Temple1 v.2 file and the red column accents don't appear, they are the standard Temple columns which lack the hieroglyphics in the Alexandria version. Some of the shrine texture models don't display the "red" alterations on the front side, only one from the original COTN textures does, but the homes for the priests tending the gods still have the red altar on their roofs.
