Quiz: Roman History and Culture

Postby Keith » Sun Oct 23, 2005 11:51 am

I have put together a quiz similar to the one I host for Egyptian History on my personal messageboard site.

By clicking on the link below you will launch the quiz window. Once the quiz starts use your keyboard to enter your answers not your mouse. Some questions require more than one selection.

The database currently contains just over 60 questions, and I'll be adding more as time goes by, so play the game more than once.

Good luck and post your results in this thread if you aren't too embarassed! :p

Well, Keith. I like your other quiz, the one about Egyptian history, so was looking forward to this one too.

Clicking it I got a very brief look of a white blank page and then back to desk top! Tried a few times but with the same result. :(

The quiz runs on a Java applet. You need to have that ability installed on your computer either from MS or from a 3rd party like Sun. I have run this quiz under both the java virtual machine from MS and now under the Java console from Sun and it should run fine for all capable machines.

If you don't have java enabled you won't be able to play the quiz. In some cases it may prompt you to download the java plugin.

So how did you do?

Play more than once if you like. The Java applet draws its 25 questions from the database of questions on a random basis each time it is run. So the questions or the order they are asked will change each time the applet is run.

I'll be adding more questions over time so the the variation of the questions you get will be different for much longer. The current quiz is drawing from just 62 questions right now, I plan on expanding that to at least twice that size or more if the quiz is popular.

Hehe, that would be telling, like I said I was interested to see how much I don't know, alot of my answers were based on things I've read on forum :)

Keep trying. I think I put in a good mix of multiple choice and true-false questions. The hard ones are the multiple answer multiple choice questions. ;)

I've just updated the questions database with 10 more new questions.

i'll tell you stuff.

first of all, i'm now an overseer.
second, the quiz was so hard, that most of the time i was below zero.
and i quit after 7 questions.
i may have a more generally extensive knowldege of roman histroy,
but whenthey ask for details, well that's my weakness.

again, overseer and difficult and quit because generalization.

Don't give up! Keep playing and you may learn a few things in the process. :) The more you play the better you'll get.

Some of the things in the quiz have been posted here on the board. In fact if you watched that little video I posted you should be able to answer serveral questions when they come up.

I thought the true-false questions were pretty easy for the most part.

Congratulations!

At least you tried. :)

Keep giving it a go, because the list of questions changes each time and it could get easier just by random luck.

You'll do better through sheer repetition eventually.

HINT: If you visit the History Channel "Rome: Engineering an Empire" webpages and view the shockwave feature there on the program you will be able to answer more of the quiz questions.

Nice homer! Astros look defeated by it....

Nice quiz. Did it 3 times with an average score of around 9. Only thing I had a problem with is that I kept expecting option B below A instead of to the right of it. As a result I typed in the wrong answer on a couple of occasions (OTOH, by the 3rd time I got some right that I missed the first time).
