Military Formation Improvements

Considerations:

A. When dragging the mouse to highlight multiple groups of soldiers
- exempt the selection of buildings (they get into the group)
- show a selection box around the area you are dragging to highlight

B. When multiple groups are selected and you order movement
- the yellow circles indicating the groups future positions should reflect
these locations properly
- make it easier to change the direction the formation faces?

C. When ordering troops to attack, sometimes they will show up at the location the enemy was during the order, rather than where they actually are

D. Pathfinding. Sometimes instead of going down a direct road, troops will stroll around in confusion trying to get to the enemy or take the most indirect route.

F. Archers should not charge at enemies (becomes a problem in confined spaces) they often get confused and don't seem to do much attacking.

G. Icons of troop positions on the minimap should reflect actual positions. Sometimes they do not, especially after a formation is killed.

H. When ordering troops to stop training, they should stop training then -not on their own time.

I. Allow users to right click on the minimap to give movement orders to troops.

J. Formations should not be selectable from the minimap using a left click. This should be used as an assist for manouvering already selected formations and will end up de-selecting soldiers you had intended to move.

K. Ctrl + a number on the keyboard to assign a formation a hotkey.


Special considerations:

A. Want to get ahead in the strategy world? Enable users to script the behavior of their troops, and call functions in battle on a menu listing those functions. (well, I thought I'd try)

I agree with Fiend-combine the military formation tactics of the Age of Empires series, or at least bring back the ones from Caesar III/Pharoah-it doesnt really seem realistic with fighting in phalanx/square formations....

Better yet, combine the combat of Rome Total War, with Caesar IV. (Preveiously suggested by myself.)

I remain unimpressed by AoE.

If *copy rights* are not an issue "combat as in Total war" would put Ceasers IV over the top - as best game ever.

Ceaser II went to a seperate combat load!
